Pascagoula, Mississippi, in Jackson county, is located 19 miles E of Biloxi, Mississippi and95 miles E of New Orleans, Louisiana. The city is included in the Biloxi-Gulfport-Pascagoula metropolitan area. Flights are available from Mobile Regional Airport. BishopState Community College, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Spring Hill College,the University of Mobile and the University of South Alabama are all nearby. ThePopulation of the City is 21,599 for the year 2021.
Pascagoula is a major industrial city of Mississippi, on the Gulf Coast. Pascagoula is hometo the state's largest private, single-site employer, Ingalls Shipbuilding, owned byHuntington Ingalls Industries. Other major industries include the largest Chevron refineryin the world; Rolls Royce Naval Marine specializing in U.S. Navy ship propulsion; and FirstChemical/Chemours. Economy of New Orleans impacts Pascagoula’s economy.Additionally, both the New Orleans Airport and the Port of New Orleans continue to playa major role in contributing to the success of the local economy. New Orleans' culturalindustry accounted for a larger source of employment than the private, healthcare, andretail sector jobs. The Port of New Orleans is a diverse deep-water port uniquely locatedon the Mississippi River near the Gulf of Mexico. This naturally strategic location allowsunparalleled access to 30-plus major inland hubs such as Memphis, Chicago and Canadavia 14,500 miles of waterways, six Class I railroads and interstate roadways.
The Mardis Gras Museum and the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum are close by toPascagoula. The Walter Anderson Museum of Art includes the work of artist Walter InglisAnderson, and his brothers James McConnell Anderson and Peter Anderson. The Ohr-O'Keefe Museum of Art showcases pottery collections of George Ohr. However, all thesemuseums were devastated by the Hurricane Katrina, and are in the process ofreconstruction. The Gulf Islands National Seashore, which stretches from Mississippi'sWest Ship Island to Florida's Santa Rosa Island, was also hit by the hurricane. Theseashore currently offers facilities for picnicking and fishing. At the Shepard State Park,visitors can enjoy nature walks, camping, fishing, boating and picnicking. The BellingrathGardens Estuarium and the Mobile Botanical Gardens are also accessible from Pascagoula.
