The presence of companies likeMicrosoft and Expedia contribute to making Seattlean international center of technology, but Amazonseals the deal. The e-commerce giant continues toexpand rapidly with high-paying jobs in the techindustry, even with its second headquarters (HQ2).The company employs 45,000 people in the metroand could realistically add tens of thousands moreover the next several years.

Other tech companies have been expanding, too,including well-known Bay Area firms. Facebook ison pace to more than double its Puget Soundregional headcount to 4,000 employees.

Initial estimates werefor a 2025 project completion date, but planssubmitted to the city in early 2018 have a more-aggressive completion target of 2022, well beforethe light rail expansion makes its way to Redmond.
