Commanders Message April is going to be a busy month as usual with many events being held at the post. Check the calen-dar for all the events. Our first round of nominations for Post Officers went well with nom-inees for most all elected posi-tions. Round 2 of nominations will be at this month’s member-ship meeting on April 18th at 7pm. Also if you are interested in any of the appointed positions such as adjutant, chaplain, PRO or historian don’t hesitate to let me know of your interest. If you missed the Saint Patrick’s Day corn beef and cabbage you missed a really good meal. The trustee’s and some helpers did a great job preparing the food. As a reminder the Annual Depart-ment Convention is 16-18 June in Orlando. If you want to attend as a post delegate please let me know. The Post pays for Conven-tion registration. The Post will also pay for 2 nights hotel accom-modations if monies are available. Any AMVET member of this post can be a delegate. Many events will be occurring this month as we gear up for our annual Scholarship Golf Tourna-ment on 29 April. In closing I’d like to thank every-one for the support you give our

Auxiliary President . I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Ladies Brunch. The money we raised will be going to the Freedom Foundation. Linda Hoon, Jerri Devoll and I went to Biloxi on 29 March to have lunch with some Veterans from the VA Center. We went to Slap Yo Mama’s BBQ. The food was amazing as was the conversa-tion with these Veterans. We will be doing this every month for the next few months if anyone would be interested in going with us. We will be doing this on the 4th Thursday of the month. We will be driving over there that morn-ing and then spend the night somewhere and come back the next morning. The Auxiliary pays for the Veterans to eat and we all pay for our own meals, travel and hotel stay. Please get with me (Duan Byrd) if you are interested in going to one of these lunches. The Veterans really did appreci-ate it and we all had a great time. This month we have the Kids Easter Party coming up on Satur-day 15 April from Noon until 2:00pm. The POC for this event is Child Welfare Officer Suzi Scanlan. Please make sure to sign your children or grandchildren up no later than Saturday 8 April.

Auxiliary Cont. We will have an Easter Egg hunt along with other activities for the kids. And on Sunday 23 April we will have our 1st Annual Horserace. This starts at 2:00pm and ends at 6:00pm. It is a lot of fun and all the proceeds will be going to the Auxiliary Schol-arship Fund. There is a lot going on this month for everyone. The Riders have their USO Poker Run on Saturday 1 April. You do not have to have a motorcy-cle to participate. They will be hav-ing raffles and auctions. So please come out and help for a good cause. On Saturday 8 April the Post Chap-lain is having a fish fry from Noon till 4pm with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. And finally we have our Annual Golf Tournament on Saturday 29 April. This is an all-day event. The AMVETS asked the Auxiliary to help out with the side dishes for this event. So I am asking all Auxiliary Members if you can please bring a side dish for this event. You do not have to stay and help out. You can even drop it off the night before. But we will need enough food for at least 100 people. We will need; coleslaw, potato salads, macaroni salads and even desserts. Anything like this would be helpful. Thank you all so much in advance. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 4 April 2017 at 6:30pm. We have our meetings in the shed out back and there is no smoking during our meet-ings. We will have our first round of nominations this month. So if you know someone who is interested in running for an office please make sure to be at the meeting. I look for-ward to seeing you there. Yours in Service, Duan Marie Byrd President, Ladies Auxiliary

Second Vice Commander Programs
April will be a busy month for the Post, as our Scholarship Golf Tour-nament will be early this year. A big thank you to all who plan to play, and an even bigger THANK YOU to the committee that puts this event on! This isn’t easy, and those folks have spent months plan-ning, getting donations, and organ-izing this tournament. What a great cause, though – assisting our high school seniors with furthering their education. Even if you don’t play golf, you can still help. They will need volunteers both at the golf course and also at the Post to help with the meal afterward. What are you doing on April 29? For those who didn’t make it out for the 919th Family Day, you really missed a great time. They had eve-rything; Music, horseback riding, games, and even a mechanical bull. And the food was great! Thanks to those who assisted with the events that day, and also to the 919th per-sonnel who continue to keep us safe here at home. You’ll also want to come out and enjoy the Military Appreciation Recognition Celebration on May 20 at the Spanish Trail Park. You can enjoy food, music (rumor has it this includes our very own Kurt Gower and Juke Joint Willie!) and exhib-its. We are planning on having a recruitment table at this event – the folks who are working there might like a little help or someone to take over for a while over so they can get some chow and walk around a little.
All of the things I’ve listed are fun
events for both you and your fami-
ly. Do you know what else they
have in common?
They’re all Programs. See how easy it is to get involved? Yours in Service, Liz Westby [email protected]
Golf Tournament
Fellow Post 35 members, Our annual Golf Tournament is fast approaching. This year’s tournament will be on the 29th of April at Blackstone Golf course. Those of you who have already volunteered to help, or beaten the pavement to secure teams and/or sponsors, Thank you. We still have a lot of work to do and have slots to fill for day of tournament activities. If you would like to support the tournament please contact Jay Scanlan, Craig Sar-rasin, or Tim Critcher. We are headed down the home stretch and are in need of more hole sponsors, if you have secured a sponsor in the past please do so again. You can get a sponsor packet from any of the AMVET staff or Jay Scanlan. Remember that whoever gets the most hole sponsorships wins a $100 bar credit. Our tournament has grown in scholarships given, teams played and funds raised substantially in the last three years, lets contribute to continue that trend. The Golf Tournament accounts for the majority of the charitable donations the Post makes, so all support is very im-portant to AMVETS Post 35 mis-sion and non-profit status.
If you are not a golfer you can
still come and support the Post
with your patronage the day of
the tournament. We will have
award winning Bama Man pulled
pork, smoked chicken, Lilly’s
famous baked beans, JV’s Cajun
corn, cole slaw, and lots of do-
nated deliciousness from the
Auxiliary for $8 a plate.
