2016-17 LEGION OFFICERS

AUXILIARY

SONS OF THE AMERICAN LEGION

AMERICAN LEGION RIDERS

Sons of the Legion News

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope you had a

good Thanksgiving, leading to a great Christmas and

New Year!

Activity is really picking up around the Post with

our summer travelers and winter visitors back in

town. It’s a great time to renew old acquaintances

and make new friends. There have been a tremendous

number of improvements made to the Post over the

summer. Come on up and see them.

The SAL has begun providing some support to the

Tucson Ronald McDonald House—we’re collecting

aluminum can pop tops, which ultimately help pro-

vide funding of ongoing operations. Awareness of

this effort is growing and volumes are increasing. We

have a collection bucket just outside the bathrooms.

Please keep us in mind.

Once pop tops are collected, they are taken to the

White Elephant who combines them with those

they’ve collected and delivers them to the Ronald

McDonald House organization.

Fisher House is a veterans related organization on

the VA campus that we’ve been contributing to for

several years. It is now fully operational and occu-

pancy is currently running around 80%. Contribu-

tions for daily operations are still needed. SAL will

be looking at ways to meet the needs. Please see our

bulletin board to see various ways you can make per-

sonal contributions.

As always, we’re looking for volunteers to work

our various functions. Please contact myself or Jen

Lawson for more information.

Our meetings continue to be the 3rd Monday of

each month at 5 pm. We’d sure like to see you there.

Our next meeting is Monday, Dec. 19, 2016.

AUXILIARY NEWS

Greetings from the Auxiliary President!

I want to personally welcome everyone to join us at

Post 66 on the third Tuesday of every month for our

Auxiliary meeting. What a great bunch of gals to be a

part of! We appreciate your time and commitment to

help make this a favorite cause to support the veterans

and their families.

We initiated new members at our November meeting

and hope these new gals will volunteer for our various

projects.

The lunches and dinners have been doing very well.

Linda Bieniek would like to thank all the volunteers for

their help in the kitchen. The menus are on the monthly

calendar.

The Legion Halloween Party and our Thanksgiving

dinner were both a great success. We participated in the

White Elephant parade and the Veteran’s Day ceremony

at the ceremony. I placed a wreath on a veteran’s grave.

Our meetings will be Dec. 20, 2016 with a pot luck

lunch at 12 noon instead of 2 pm.

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a

Happy New Year with good memories to come.

For God and Country,

Betty Burroughs, Auxiliary President

On your birthday, pre-

sent your drivers license

bership card to the bar-

American Legion Riders

Chapter 66

Hello from the ALR!

As the winter visitors and riders return, the American Legion

Riders activities are in full swing.

Wine and Craft Beer Co Chairs Robyn Norland and Kathy

Stoeckel have begun planning for the February 11 Wine Auc-

tion and Dinner. For the silent auction this year, we have added

a craft beer category, so participants can bring both wine and

beer for that event. Table captains for the event are still wel-

come to volunteer. And you need not be a Rider to host a table.

All that is needed for this great evening is to prepare a basket of

goodies for the live auction and invite six other people to join

you for the event – and of course bid. The wine auction contrib-

utes significant revenue to support the ALR charities. For addi-

tional info contact Robyn at [email protected] or

Kathy at [email protected]

We continue to serve rib dinners on the first Friday of each

month and we continue to serve Tacos on the 2nd and 4th

Wednesdays in conjunction with the Queen of Hearts Drawing.

We will be doing a potato bar on the 5th Wednesdays.

In October 12 riders visited AVIVA and presented them with

a $4,000 check. Aviva provides services to children who have

been removed from their homes by Child Protective Services. A

similar presentation will be made to the Fisher House in Tucson

in November.

Road Captain Mark Norland has led us on two successful

Raider Rides to Stafford and Fountain Hills.

Mary Lucas has raised her hand to fill our newly created po-

sition of Volunteer Coordinator. In addition to the above men-

tioned meals, the Riders participate in a number of other fund

raising and civic events. All require the efforts of volunteers.

As riders, our duty is to participate in these activities. Mary will

coordinate these efforts to broaden our volunteer base. Thanks

Mary for volunteering to corral the volunteers!

Any Post 66 Legion member who has been exposed to Agent

Orange, please contact Barry Lucas at [email protected].

He is the Post Adjutant and regularly at the Post so you can stop

by and see him personally as well.
