are UK based designers and manufacturers of

specialist seating for the transportation market.

The Group incorporates Scot Seats Direct Ltd and Scot Seats KPM-Marine. Scot Seats Direct Ltd is the market leader in seating manufacture for commercial vehicles, buses, trains, fire engines and military vehicles. Scot Seats KPM-Marine provide specialist shock mitigation seating for the marine industry; used by rescue services, military operators, police forces as well as commercial and leisure vessels.

Scot Seats Group is a family owned and operated business based in Ayrshire, Scotland with in-house skills ranging from metal fabrication, joinery, upholstery, spray painting/coating to composite manufacture - facilitating both small and large orders to customers’ specific requirements. The company manufacture approximately 12,000 commercial vehicle seats per year, as well as numerous customised specialist seating and mounting systems.

Manufacturing lead times are generally short and Scot Seats has a nationwide fitting service with fully trained technicians to service customer needs. All seats comply with regulations pertaining to each industry for which they are intended and the team work closely with their customers advising and assisting with the specification.

An introduction to Shock Mitigation

Scot Seats work with various organisations, regulatory bodies and associations to ensure that their seats meet the requirements and standards expected for Shock Mitigation seating. Our suspension systems are continuously undergoing testing using the data collated to improve techniques and designs.

There are several directives and guidance notes set out by the EU and the MCA on the effects of reducing shock mitigation, and seating is seen as a key area to help reduce the impact.

There are several seating options available:

The jockey seat is the most popular for small high speed craft where the occupant is in almost a standing position straddling the seat like a saddle on a horse with both feet on the deck and knees slightly bent. This position keeps the posture correct to lessen the chance of injury. Good seats will be able to be adjusted according to the height and weight of the people using the seats.

Larger vessels tend to use the fully seated, feet off the deck Shock Mitigation seat. This seat is generally available with a safety

harness or lap safety belt to secure the occupant in the seated position at all times.

Lateral force can be one of the most damaging to the spine and occupant. The Scot Seats ShuffleTM system reduces the force significantly and when combined with the seat design the mitigation foam gives a superior level of ride, comfort and protection to the occupant.

Constant or single impacts, shock blasts or vibrations can cause fatigue, reduce proficiency, pain, injuries and even death. Scot Seats use the MITIGATOR™ technology, which is an engineered cushioning system designed to protect people and equipment from these assaults.

Scot Seats products are all stress tested and designed to comply with IMO High Speed Craft Code.

The Scot Seats KPM-Marine suspension system is under continuous test and as a result we have amassed a vast amount of data in all sea states and body types. The graphs opposite represent the peak g-force reductions and for clarity have not been statistically adjusted into RMS or other formats.

There are many different issues surrounding Shock Mitigation and Whole Body Vibration (WBV) on high speed boats.

FOX Float Air Shock:

The FOX Float air shock comes as standard on the S2H Helmsman seat and is optional on all variants of our jockey seat range.

The FOX Float offers even more effective shock mitigating characteristics and is infinitely adjustable for any size of occupant in any sea conditions.

The FOX Float shock has a progressive air spring which allows you to set the shock at a softer more comfortable setting while still giving high resistance to bottoming.

TenCate Advanced Armour:

TenCate Advanced Armour has developed a lightweight composite bullet proof armour system for our range of jockey and helmsman seats to protect occupants from enemy attack.

Standard Threat Level protection level:

• STANAG level 1, 7.62 x 51 Nato Ball, 5.56 x 45 SS109 & 5.56 x 45 M193.

• Coated in ROSIST Environmental Protection

Fixed Helm, Crew and Passenger Seats

The San Carlos range of High and Low back seats which are available in standard and deluxe models are ideal as helmsman, crew and passenger seats and are regularly used in windfarm support vessels, fishing boats, crew transfer boats and ferries. Seats can be supplied with or without pedestals, legs or mounting frames and are tested to 2005/41/EC & ECE Regulation 14.07.

The San Carlos seat range can be fitted with MITIGATOR™ foam cushioning system. The MITIGATOR™ uses patented air control technology working with over

4000 surfaces per square foot to dissipate energy before it is transmitted to the body and thus help reduce constant or single impacts, shock blasts or vibrations.
