  • September 2013Craft Club made traditional gloves, using an antique sewing machine. Leafield was famous for glove-making in the 17th

    and 18th centuries.

  • October 2013

    Our amazing visit to Turkey

  • December 2013Inspired by our visit to Turkey, we set up a Comenius Club to

    design and make Salwar (Turkish trousers).

  • Once all the trousers were finished, we had a Turkish tea party. We danced to traditional Turkish music (whilst wearing

    our trousers), drank Turkish tea and ate Turkish food the Baklava was very popular!

  • As part of their Narnia topic, Class 3 read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

  • First of all, they auditioned to see who would play the different characters, then made scenery and masks.

  • Class 3 really enjoyed rehearsing their play and the whole school watched the dress rehearsal. They invited their families

    to watch the main performance. Everybody said they had a fantastic time and Class 3 had lots of fun too!

  • In December the whole school made Christmas cards and decorations to send to our partner schools.

  • All the pupils took part in a Christingle service in Leafield Church with parents and the local community.

  • KS1 and the Reception Class performed The Little Bird told me.

  • KS2 performed Christmas Top of The Pops.

  • March 2014

    Artist Richard Gibson came to Leafield to make a broken tile mosaic of the Comenius logo with the whole school.

  • March April 2014

    Our fantastic trip to Italy

  • April 2014Class 1 learned all about the Comenius countries in their

    Around the World topic.

    They made Turkish slippers

  • They made pasta

  • It was delicious!

  • They made Gondolas

  • They created Guiseppe Arcimboldo paintings

  • They celebrated the Bulgarian Festival of Kukeri and made their own masks

  • They created Flamenco peg dolls and Castanets

  • April 2014

    Class 3 did a topic all about Spain.

  • They read the story of Don Quixote and then wrote play scripts. They made puppets of the main characters.

  • They performed their puppet shows to the class

  • They also used finger puppets to help learn Spanish phrases.

  • Spanish visit

    Children and teachers from Maestro Juan Alcaide school in Spain came to visit us. Class 3 enjoyed playing with the children. They especially liked learning the cup song!

  • Our children also gave and received letters. They really enjoyed reading them!

  • They also enjoyed learning Flamenco dance, it was great fun!

  • Summer 2014

    Pupils from drama club performed to parents during the village fete.

  • The whole school took part in Sports Day.

  • September 2014

    The whole school and community came together to celebrate Harvest Festival in Leafield church.

  • Class 4 found out that that the word harvest came from an old Anglo-Saxon word haerfest which meant Autumn. The

    children learnt how to make a traditional harvest sheaf out of bread dough.

  • Class 3 made posters with words related to Harvest.

  • Class 1 and 2 sang a song called Conkers and made conker headbands.

  • They also recited poetry.

    Our amazing visit to Spain

  • November 2014

    Class 1 made poppy pictures to mark Armistice Day.

  • Bonfire Night

    They also made a firework display to celebrate Bonfire night.

  • Nativity play

    December 2014

    Class 1 and 2 performed a Nativity play to parents and the rest of the school.

  • This year we also decided to begin an annual Christmas lantern procession around Leafield for children, parents and local people as part of our Christmas celebrations.

  • Local artist Emily Cooling came to teach our children how to make their own willow lantern for the

    procession.

  • Comenius Christmas

    Class 3 & 4 decided to celebrate Christmas with traditional songs from all the Comenius Countries.

    Class 3 painted pictures inspired by artists from all the Comenius countries

  • March 2015

    We welcomed our Comenius partners to our school everyone was very excited!

  • The children performed plays, dances and songs.

  • We had a visit from some Morris Dancers too!

  • April 2015

    Another wonderful visit from our Spanish friends!

  • Leafield Primary Schools 175th Birthday celebrations

    Our Victorian school day.

  • Ex-pupils and staff helped us to celebrate our schools

    birthday on April 20th 2015.

    Work based on the story Little Idas Flowers by Hans Christian Andersen

  • We set up a Craft Club after school. Here are some pictures of the children working on the project:

  • Class 3 worked on a project inspired by the book, to plant wildflowers to help save Bumblebees this linked to their

    topic Endangered Species.

  • They started by making a display for the classroom

  • They each designed and painted a flowerpot

  • Then they planted wildflower seeds

  • The children had decorations to put in their pots.

  • May - June 2015

    We are now looking forward to our final Comenius visit to Bulgaria.The project has given us the opportunity to experience new things,

    meet new friends, learn from each other and to be more creative it has been a wonderful experience for everyone!
