It is Finished! As I write this memo, we are two weeks out

from the Dedication Weekend of our new ad-

ministration wing and Sunday School facili-

ties. Although “finished” is still a bit prema-

ture, [there are details yet to be done!] this 15

month project is finally coming to a close!

There are so many people to be thanked, so much sacrifice of

time, talents and treasures to be recognized, and so much

praise to be given to our God. This will be the agenda for our

gatherings that weekend. We will thank God for the mighty

work He has performed and given us! We will be sending out

5,000 invitations to families in our community, hoping they

will come to see and experience what has been done. And I

hope that each of us will extend personal invitations to family

members, neighbors and coworkers to join us and celebrate

our blessings. There

personal invitation.

day May 5 @ 9:45 a.m.

and the Open House

on Sunday May 5th, from 1—4 p.m.

SUNDAY MORNING COFFEE HOUR Everyone is invited to come down to our Fellowship Hall

every Sunday following the worship service to enjoy

coffee hour; a time for fellowship with your church fami-

ly. This is a time to meet new members and make new

friends.

Coffee and/or juice is served along with coffee cake or

cookies and/or cheese and crackers and best of all Birth-

day or Anniversary cake on special occasions.

We need volunteers to host the coffee hour on Sunday. A

sign-up sheet is posted on the kitchen door to sign up.

Two or three or more can get together on a Sunday to be

hosts for the day. Bring whatever food you would like to

share, a time to show off you baking skills if you enjoy

baking, or purchase your favorite coffee cake, cookies or

cheese and crackers, and your choice of juice to serve.

This is also a good time to honor family members on their

birthday or anniversary.

A list of instructions is posted in the kitchen as a guide to

help you serve. Marty Gregory and Lucille Tolonen are

always available to answer any questions.

The duties of a host is to bring whatever treat you wish to

serve — set up for serving — and clean up after the coffee

hour. This will give a break to the same people who work

every Sunday morning for coffee hour.

Come join us on Sunday, after worship, to enjoy a time of

fellowship.

WSM Bible Study

This is the final session of

the monthly Bible Study for

this season.

The disciples are gathered

with Jesus after the resurrection. They receive the

promise of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit will

empower them to be Christ’s witnesses. (Read Acts

1: 6-11. For more actions of the Holy Spirit read the

book of Acts.

Pray that we, too, can leave our comfort zone and

live our faith to our community and beyond. How

can we do this? Join us on Friday, May 10th at 10

a.m. or 5:30 p.m. at Ida Dudleston’s. (847-336-5096)

SEDER DINNER - THANK YOU Thank you to everyone who helped with the Seder dinner. We had a total of 132 reservations this year.

A special thank you to all the following people who made the dinner a successful event. All members of the

Hospitality team who worked on the many jobs to make the dinner successful, the men who helped set up ta-

bles for dinner; the Youth Group and First Communion class and their parents, and everyone who helped set

tables for the dinner. Sue Meyer for making the Charoseth again this year, you always do a great job. A very

special thanks to Mario Garza for the many hours he worked by picking up the lamb and beef at the store

and helping all day on Thursday with the cooking and heavy lifting which needed to be done in the kitchen.

Thank you to everyone who helped clean up after the dinner. Thank you to everyone who donated food items for

the Seder plates and dinner.

Also, a special thank you to Pastor Koth and the Music and Drama team for the special presentations all

through the Lenten Season and during Holy week. You delivered the word and music in a very inspiring

way.

Note: All food that was left over from the Seder dinner was de-

livered to PADS, which is located on the Navy base, to be served

to the homeless people in need. Lucille Tolonen, Team Leader

The True Story of

“A Man of Faith, Strength,

and Courage, and Doing What’s Right”*

Very truly, I tell you, the one who believes in me will

also do the works that I do, and,

in fact, will do greater works than these, because I am

going to the Father.

John 14:12

Jesus told his disciples that they would be doing

even greater works than He in John 14:12. Little

did Army Captain David Rozelle know he would

be fulfilling Jesus’ prophesy.

On June 21, 2003, Captain Rozelle’s life changed

forever when he was severely injured in his

Humvee while leading his troop near Fallujah,

Iraq. God gave David Rozelle not only the

strength to survive a tragedy, God gave him

strength to help others, other “wounded

warriors” to have the courage to heal and adjust

to a new way of living. –

When Captain Rozelle lost his foot and his leg

below the knee, he faced losing his career in the

army. But he didn’t give up! He worked

through his grief and pain and after eight

surgeries he was determined to use rigorous

physical activity with his new prosthesis;

jumping, walking steps, doing push-ups, and

sprinting up small inclines. Before long he was

on the Colorado slopes learning to ski again. In

fact, he co-founded the Vail Veterans Program

that hosts severely injured troops and their

families to skiing in Vail. For ten years now over

1500 “wounded warriors” have come to Vail for

healing.

But shortly after all his physical training and

rehabilitation, a new reality hit Captain Rozelle.

“I was lying on the couch, icing my leg, and it

hit me, ‘I’m going to be like this forever,’” he said.

“It finally sank in all at once. It was good that I

was alone because I really got to cry it out. I

was slowly realizing that I was going to have to

adapt my lifestyle. My heart broke. It was after

that day that my mind started to heal.”

Captain Rozelle now focused on two goals:

returning to the Army and his concerns for the

needs of others with injuries like his own. And

now the story really begins! …to be continued

Peace to you,

Jill Shepherd

COOL FOOD PANTRY—

FOOD OF THE MONTH:

CANNED FRUIT

Birthday Gifts Emily Raykiewicz asked friends at her 6th

birthday party to bring food donations in lieu

of gifts. Together, these 12 kids donated over

30 pounds of food to the COOL Food Pantry

in early March.

Thank You

March 12, 2013

Dear Friends,

Thank you for your donations in the amount of

$513.00 to the COOL Family Pantry from your

Souper Bowl 2013. Your kindness and generosi-

ty is a blessing to those in need.

The past year has been a very difficult time in

the lives of many families throughout Lake

County. Without having food to eat or a place to

call home, those who struggle to find work, and

lead self-sufficient lives will not find success.

When families suffer from food insecurity—not

knowing where their next meal will come

from—finding food becomes the number one

priority. Thanks to donors like you we were

able to provide food to 23,900 families at COOL

Food pantries last year.

All of us at COOL give thanks for your partner-

ship in this ministry. You have my deepest

thanks for helping us bring help and hope to so

many.

Warmest Regards,

Diane Thackston, Executive Director

Mission Interpreter—

The CBS TV network has a self-

promotion campaign that simply

states: CBS Cares! I think we

could adapt that to say: ELCA

cares.

Here are some updates from the ELCA Lutheran

Disaster Response. To date we have sent

$2,443,116 in response to the earthquake and tsu-

nami in Japan and to help respond to the food

scare around contamination. We have funded

mainly through the Japan Lutheran Emergency

Relief. We have also funded through the Asian

Rural Institute to help rebuild their campus and

engage in food production and testing after the

contamination scare. We have also raised nearly

$3,000,000 through individuals, congregations

and synods across the ELCA.

To date we have sent $13,326,835 for response to

the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. We have also sent

$450,000 in response to Hurricane Sandy. For

Hurricane Sandy the total giving to address both

the US and Caribbean has been nearly $4,000,000.

Our response to the earthquake has been long-

standing and focused on three areas: 1) Gressier

Model Village, 2) Vocational Training Center and

3) cholera prevention and response. Since Hurri-

cane Sandy the major area of response has been

around cholera since there was a lot of standing/

contaminated water.

St. Mark's Cook Book

Wanted... Your Favorite Recipe(s)

The box that has been placed in the Narthex

marked Cook Book Recipes is anxiously awaiting

your recipe(s). But please, type (preferably) or

hand print the recipe(s). This will make for

less mistakes as they are retyped for the cook

book. And don't forget to put your name on

the recipe. If you have one of grandma's,

grandpa's, an aunt or friend that you want to

submit, then below your name add: In memory

of... or In honor of..., and her/his name. A keep-

sake recipe is special and great to share

We are looking forward to the many kinds of

foods that will be included. So if you have rec-

ipes for CHILDREN, INTERNATIONAL or,

MICROWAVE, please share them.

Again, all of us on the Ministry of Hospitality

Cook Book Committee say thank you for your

help in making our new St. Mark's Cook Book a

reality.

Thank You Thank you Teams for the delicious Lenten

Soup suppers. Please turn in your recipes to

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. Dinner at 6 p.m. There will be an appreciation dinner held at St. Mark’s on Saturday, May 4th in which we will honor those involved in the building project.
