Call to Discern Religious Life Who are the Regnum Christi Consecrated Women? They are this and MUCH more... Their lives are both contemplative and evangelizing. They strive to grow in holiness and to extend Christ’s Kingdom in the hearts of others. They live this in several ways. Their spousal love for Christ makes Him the center of their life and mission. Through their spiritual motherhood and apostolic heart, they give testimony to Christ’s merciful love. Finally, through their action they participate in the new evangelization. Their Pastoral Work: They are called to work in the area of evangelization, working with girls, young women and the entire family. They work in full cooperation with the Church and its bishops, supporting the ministry of local dioceses, promoting parish life, and collaborating in their programs, and those run by Regnum Christi. They preach, teach, offer personal mentoring, spiritual guidance or counseling, and run formation courses, pilgrimages and retreats. Their Mission Work: They serve the following missions: Mission Youth: Mission Youth is a pastoral program that runs missions in different countries around the world. They work with the missionaries and leaders to help them experience Christ’s love and become leaders at the service of the Church. They serve on the National team and accompany each mission, helping uphold the core values of Mission Youth: Encounter, Evangelization, Respect, Service, Openness and Joy. RC Mission Corps: The RC missionaries live and work alongside them for their mission year. They serve on the national and local teams for the RC Mission Corp, overseeing the formation of the missionaries in their training courses and support and accompany them in their ongoing formation. ECYD Mission Corps: ECYD Mission Corps is an international Catholic missionary exchange program where a high school student can volunteer their time during the summer for a period of 4 to 8 weeks, exclusively for the Church. They are the program directors, helping the young women to serve people through active apostolate, and help other young people find the meaning of their lives in Christ.

Stawaisz Big Celebration Birthdays and Anniversary—November 17!!!

Initially, Susan and her sons planned a birthday party for Ray, as well as their wedding anniversary celebration. First, everyone arrived at 6:00 pm to celebrate Ray’s birthday and their anniversary. Unbeknownst to Susan, Ray and their sons had planned a surprise birthday party for her as well. At 7:30 pm, Susan’s friends were quietly arriving to surprise Susan. Tears began rolling down her cheeks when she saw the lit birthday cake and friends that had shown up for her special day! She had no idea a birthday party was planned for her too! Everyone had a wonderful time sharing the Stawaisz’s special day. The photo above includes Susan and her husband, Ray, with their sons, Ross and Deacon Ryan. Deacon Ryan, a Seminarian at St. Mary’s, is scheduled to be ordained a priest on Saturday, June 1, 2019!!! Please keep Deacon Ryan in your prayers on his journey!

Our Serrans

Robert Charles (Bob) Batchelor

April 20, 1939—October 30, 2018

We will greatly miss our long time Serran, Bob Batchelor, who went home to be with Our Lord on Tuesday, October 30. Joan, Bob’s widow, hosted a beautiful Rosary at her home with all the family on Monday, November 5, the evening before Bob’s funeral. Joan’s sister, Sister Barbara Austin, who is a Benedictine in Tulsa, OK, lead the Rosary. Joan’s brother, Father Stephen Austin, who is a Diocesan Priest in the Diocese of Tulsa, was among the family members present and Celebrant at Bob’s funeral Mass. Also present were members of the CGS Care Giving Ministry, Serrans and friends. His funeral was held at Christ the Good Shepherd (CGS) on Tuesday, November 6. Bob was a beginning member of CGS. He was on the Parish Council for many years and contact person for Northwest Assistance Ministries (NAM). He physically brought the food from CGS to NAM for many, many years and was the liason between CGS and NAM. After Bob’s stroke he had the help of a young man, Daniel Alvarez, to load CGS food into Bob’s car and Bob drove the food to NAM. This great work happened for many years. They both inspired each other during their work for NAM. We will greatly miss our dear Bob who always had a smile on this face!

Survey results of Ministries that Serrans Participate in

Over the past couple of months I have been collecting survey responses from North Houston Serrans identifying ministries that they are, or have been, involved in at their parish. 28 members responded. The numbers below indicate how many members are involved in each of the ministries. It is great to see the wonderful involvement that our Serrans have to promote God’s love and to support his church! Thank you for your responses, Ann Zdansky

Fellow Club of North Houston Serrans: My many thanks to Carol Cason for leading a successful recruitment drive at St. Edward’s on November 11

th and 12

th, resulting in 5 new Serrans (James and Janis

Hatcher, Deacon Dominic and Ruth Romaguera, and Anna Psencik), and to all of our Serrans who gave their time, talent and treasure in filling and delivering Christmas gift bags to 73 Seminarians at St. Mary’s. Did you know? • There are 146 parishes in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Each of these

parishes is assigned to one of eight clubs. We have 18 parishes assigned to our Club, and members from seven of our assigned parishes. Wouldn’t it be great if we could get members from the other 11 parishes involved in our mission?

• Cardinal DiNardo ordained four priests this past year and four retired. On average it takes eight years of formation and discernment to be ordained a priest. We currently have 73 Seminarians in formation at St. Mary’s Seminary. Translation --- more work ahead fellow Serrans.

I believe that we would all agree that we live in a broken World and are in great need of more Holy men and women. As I was reflecting on this I came across a couple of quotes that I thought you might like: • The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home – Confucius • If you are Holy you will change the World. If not, the World will change you – Brother

Anthony Freeman, LC – from his book One Step Closer. Some of you may have known Brother Anthony Freeman, who passed away earlier this year. Brother Anthony was in formation to become a priest in the Legionnaire order. I hope to see many of you at our Serra USA Rally from January 17

th to 20

th in Ventura,

CA and our Vocation Expo at St Mary’s Seminary on January 26th.

Luke 10:2 – The harvest is plentiful, the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. I look forward to hearing from you. Siempre Adelante!!! Your Brother in Christ, Ed Tyrrell

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Serrans are loving and giving individuals. Most of the Serrans volunteer for several organizations at their parish. On October 2 you should have received a survey to complete identifying ministries that you have been involved with in the past and are currently involved in. Don’t worry, this is just for statistical information purposes, we won’t contact you and your information will not be given out to anyone. Please, see if you can locate the email and complete the survey, if you haven’t done so already. If you can’t locate the survey email, please let me know and I will send you another copy.
