Combination of ancillary task and music video

How well did they work together?

Me and my group wanted to create a digi pack and poster which reflected the story line in our music video.

When we looked into different CD covers in our pre production research we noticed different themes which were used throughout the exemplar covers.

Themes included, colours and fonts, different backgrounds, and most importantly the albums flowed all the way through and kept to the same style.

My group decided that to keep to the same style we would add in a background which could be used on the majority of our work.

We feel that we have created a digi pack which matches well with our music video we have created, using images to tell the storyline through the albums name ‘Secrets’.

We feel that the poster works well with the album cover we have produced and the music video we have created. This is due to using the same style of backgrounds. This means we have been able to use the ‘house’ in the background throughout our music video, poster and CD cover.

My group believe that our research has helped a lot during this task because this allowed us to see that the music videos produced show how the album shows similar conventions and styles used to make it flow constantly.

Ancillary and Music Video

I believe that our digi pack supports our music video. This is because we have selected and created middle pages which show the storyline of the music video. This means cheating on someone and loving someone else and the other partner does not know about this.

We wanted to make sure that our album covers flowed all the way through so we could allow our product to match the CD covers which Avril Lavigne has.

We believe that the majority of our images created for our digi pack supports our music video, however the middle page ‘when your gone’ music lyrics we choose a subtle image which allowed us to step away from the conventions of our music video.

Ancillary and Music Video- The Poster

With our poster we wanted to show continuity of using a photograph which allowed us to see continuity throughout the music video.

We believe that photo conveys the personality of the artist and the artist throughout our music video. We wanted our artist to be able to look like she is missing someone and keeping a secret.

We have done this by using different facial expressions where she does not give much information away at all to how she is feeling.

The image shown below is a shot from our music video, and we can see that the facial expression is used on the poster. We wanted to carry this through the whloe digi pack as it creates a sense of what the artist is feeling.

When we created our CD cover we wanted to keep the secret behind the expression the artist is portraying. Therefore in our music video our artist also chooses to hide behind her facial expression and the audience have to keep guessing whats wrong.

This is the same story for Digi pack we have created because (Avril) Aletta is creating a facial expression which is hard to read until you open up the digi pack and see the inserts. The inserts suggest that the artist is hiding a secret. The second image reveals this with the back cover saying ‘Shut the hell up’.

The expressions in the music video are however revealed in sections where we see the storylines unravel and the audience are able to see why the aritst is looking sad and full of emotion.

Therefore we believe that our poster matches our music video and digi pack which we have produced.

One of the main factors we wanted to show the audience is a connection between our music video , the digi pack and poster. We aimed to do this by using similar costumes and using the same setting. In Avril Lavignes original music video only a few settings were used and only a few costume changes which made the video seem simple and effective.

In our music video we chose to use a simple prom dress which was simple and graceful which is shown in pictures 1 and 2. We wanted to choose a background to have in our music video as In Avril’s original she uses trees and houses as her main focus for performance and narrative shots. Therefore we decided to use a wall, and a main house throughout the whole of the song, which later on continued throughout our ancillary task. By doing this, this showed the audience a link between both music video and our digi packs.

I believe that these images work well together as they allow continuity throughout both pieces.

How well do the ancillary task and video go together?

The setting shows a flow across both pieces of work including the costume used, the brightness and the shot types.

We used a long shot on the poster which includes the house which is featured through our music video, CD cover and inside the digi pack.

The costume used in our music video wasn’t used on the our CD cover or poster, however a very similar dress has been used.

The main theme of our CD cover was ‘school prom’ style. However we believe that our music video relates to this theme as it is still concerning friendships and relationships which are shown in the digi pack.

I also believe that they go well together is because of the mystery behind the facial expression which the artist has created.
