Ministry Opportunity Guide 2015
A GREAT COMMISSION ASSOCIATION…
An Association is the first touch of
fulfilling The Great Commission.
Believing that the local church is to touch all four
areas of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20,
Acts 1:8), and understanding that the Scriptural
model is churches working together in missions,
ministry, and evangelism, associations were born
and became the “first touch” of the Great
Commission.
Columbia Baptist Association
The Columbia Baptist Association was organized
November 7, 1885 with 13 churches. The
organizational meeting was held at Bluff Springs
Baptist Church. Today there are 51 churches and
two mission churches with a total membership
exceeding 30,000. Houston County is host to 50 of
the churches with 1 in Geneva County.
CBA “First Touch” Ministries
Cooperation is the genius of all that we do. We
utilize hundreds of volunteers each year. By working
together, we are able to accomplish far more than
when working independently.
Our Mission…
The Columbia Baptist Association is a family of
churches partnering together by faith to fulfill the
Great Commission through missions, ministry,
evangelism, discipleship, and Bible Study.
ABOUT THIS GUIDE Information is so important to the success of any
organization, and without it no organization will be
able to be as effective as it could be.
Columbia Baptist Association is here to help the
local church and give leadership to an association of
churches that have come together to “partner” in
ministry.
One of our greatest challenges here at your CBA
office is to make sure you get the information you
need to help you in your own local church to carry
out your mission, and to let you know what
resources and ministries are available through your
association to assist you.
In order to get vital, updated ministry information
to you, we put together this Ministry Opportunity
Guide to inform and communicate all the ministries
in your association and our partners in service.
This guide is a very valuable tool designed to
help you find out more information about the
ongoing ministries of the association and who to
contact if you want to connect your church with one
of these ministries.
Additionally, we have included information on
other organizations in our community that have
ministry opportunities you can get involved in.
If you have questions or need assistance with any
of these ministries listed, please do not hesitate to
call Ken Farley or Jeff Ross at the CBA office,
794-6281.

APARTMENT COMPLEX MINISTRY
Meeting needs, sharing Christ
The great number of multi-housing settings
(apartments, mobile homes, townhouses, etc.)
presents a challenge and an opportunity for the
unique concept of multi-housing missions. By taking
advantage of this population density, this ministry
provides a means of delivering the Good News of
God’s love and power to the residents.
Who lives there? The young, old, poor, rich,
divorced, single parents, married, single: all ages, all
religions, all ethnic groups: the handicapped and the
gifted, educated and the deprived—all live in
multihousing.
What are their needs? Their needs are physical,
emotional, social, educational and spiritual, as in the
general population. However, living in such close
proximity to others may increase or decrease the
intensity of these needs.
What can we do? Through Christian love we show
that we care about them personally, finding ways to
help them in their needs. When they express their
search for meaning in life, we tell them about Jesus.
We can provide activities for residents that will
help cultivate relationships that can naturally lead to
a resident’s sense of belonging and self worth. This
ultimately can lead to acceptance of Jesus Christ as
Savior and Lord.

FAMILIES IN NEED
Spreading Christmas cheer to those in need
A few years ago we found another need over
the holidays. Families are calling and coming
into our Ministry Center as well as the CBA
office
requesting help with Christmas. Please do not
have individuals or families call us to be
placed on a list. Our list comes from the cli-
ents we see at the Ministry Center.
Before this happens, we want to have a list of
churches, individuals, families, Sunday School
classes, WMU groups, etc. in place who we
can call ready to help a family if the need aris-
es. These
families are screened through our Ministry
Center to make sure that it is an actual need
and that they are not receiving help from an-
other agency. This would be a great ministry
opportunity as well as a way to connect these
families to your church through your personal
touch.

PEN PAL PROGRAM—SARCOA
Long-term Care Osbudsman program
Loneliness can be one of the most difficult
aspects of nursing home life. The lucky ones receive
visits from caring friends and family, but many have
little contact with the outside world. To improve the
quality of life for residents, the Long-term Care
Osbudsman program of the Southern Alabama
Regional Council on Aging has started a program
that allows the public to become pen pals with
residents of long-term care facilities.
One letter a month is all it takes to show someone
cares. No personal information is exchanged about
the resident or volunteer and all letters are screened
before they are given to the intended receiver.
The only requirements are that the volunteer make a
one year commitment to the program as well as send
one letter a month to the resident.

The Salvation Army was founded as an
evangelical organization dedicated to bringing
people into a meaningful relationship with God
through Christ. The word salvation indicates the
overall purpose of this organization—to motivate all

Christ.
The word army indicates that the organization is
a fighting force, constantly at war with the powers of
evil. Battles are effectively waged through an
integrated ministry that gives attention to both body
