4) Press down on the the recoil spring plug.

Important Safety Note The 1911 recoil spring is under great tension and if not handled correctly will fly out at great speed. This could cause a safety problem or at the very least fly across the room knocking your wife's china tea cup off of the shelf causing much more pain than a physical injury.

5) While continuously pressing down on the recoil spring plug, turn the barrel bushing clockwise so the recoil spring and recoil spring plug can exit the slide..

6) Allow the recoil spring to slowly expand to its fullest extent.

7) Remove the recoil spring and recoil spring plug and set both aside.

8) Turn the barrel bushing counter-clockwise.

29) Insert the the pin of the slide stop into the slide stop hole.

30) While pressing in the slide stop it may be necessary to slightly compress the plunger so the slide stop snaps into place. I usually use a small punch or flat blade jeweler's screwdriver. Cycle the slide to make sure the barrel stays in place and does not move. If the barrel moves freely then you most likely did not insert the slide stop pin into the barrel linkage hole. This is easily remedied by removing the slide stop and realigning the slide, frame, and barrel linkage hole.

35) Insert the recoil spring and recoil spring plug.

36) Compress the recoil spring and recoil spring plug.

37) While holding the recoil spring plug down, rotate the barrel bushing counter-clockwise until the barrel bushing locks the recoil spring plug into place.

38) Cycle the slide to ensure proper operation.

39) Figure 39 shows the reassembled 1911 pistol.
