IN THE LOOP Updates from Careers | GENERAL NOTICES COLO HIGH SCHOOL Term 1 - Week 5 | 2019 What is Work Experience? Workplace learning programs form part of the NSW secondary school curriculum. They enable students to spend a planned period of time − usually a week − in a workplace of their choice, enhancing their classroom learning, informing their career choices and building their industry skills. These programs are relevant to all students in NSW public schools. Colo Students generally undertake up to three placements during Year 10 and must participate in a learning agreement to catch up with any classwork that is missed while on placement. Workplace learning helps students to: test their job and career choices engage with the wider community complete course work in a relevant industry setting learn what is required from a worker in the workplace build general work skills like workplace communication, team work and critical thinking develop specific industry skills, including vocational education and training (VET) course competencies gain confidence, maturity and self-management skills through participation in an adult work environment make informed decisions when planning their transition through school and on to further education, training and work. Education Work Experience placement. This is a 6 hour program. Online White Cards will NOT be accepted. Your White Card must be produced for your Work Experience to be approved. The first White Card class session on the 15 March has been filled. Please add your name as soon as possible to the new list in the Careers Office for the second session: date to be advised. What is Work Experience?

In some instances you may need to make special travel arrangements. These have strict closing dates and specific criteria that must be addressed in the applications.

UCAT Replaces UMAT Test in 2019

UCAT stands for University Clinical Aptitude Test. UCAT is one of three main criteria used by most universities in Australia and New Zealand to select students into high demand health related careers such as medicine and dentistry (the other two criteria being performance in final high school exams and interviews). The UCAT is a two hour, computer-based test which assesses a range of mental abilities identified by universities as important to practicing in the fields of medicine

students to make informed choices regarding their Year 11 and 12 study requirements and tertiary options. Exhibitors will include Universities, Colleges, Australian Defence Forces, automotive and building trade organisations, apprenticeship training groups, TAFE and creative industries.

It consists of five separately timed subtests which each contain a number of questions in a multiple-choice format.UCAT was developed with the goal to assess qualities considered desirable in the health professions, including problem solving, empathy and abstract reasoning skills.
