Curriculum Collinsville State School adapts the C2C units. In 2020 we teach and assess students in 7 Learning Areas across the whole school. LOTE is taught for year 5 and 6 classes only. To ensure we allow students access to a variety of units and content, we utilise an A and B year for our composite classrooms.

At the beginning of every year teachers will complete a yearly overview based on the A/B cycle. This is necessary due to changing year groupings (Prep or P/1 etc.).

English at Collinsville State School is adapted from the C2C units to teach our writing focus.

Mathematics at Collinsville State School utilises the iMaths text and program. Teachers plan their maths around an investigation from the program. Classrooms are to complete 8 investigations per year and ensure students are exposed to a wide variety of concepts/skills and assessment types.

Science is vertically aligned. Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Space, Physics. Units are taken taken from C2C and/or Primary Connections.

Whole-school Teaching ApproachesCSS – Teaching of WritingAt Collinsville State School our English units contain a focus writing genre. This genre is explicitly taught to the students and students are given multiple opportunities to practice this writing. We have a school wide expectation of language and processes used for each genre.

CSS - Teaching of ReadingReading at CSS is taught during a minimum of 3 planned guided reading sessions per week. Students are broken into ability groups and complete work designed to improve their fluency, decoding and comprehension. Senior Class will only complete PM benchmark on students yet to meet PM30. PROBE may be used to continue assessing student reading.

CSS - Teaching of Spelling

Spelling is taught using common sound/letter patterns. Sound waves program provides the basis of our school spelling program.

CSS - Teaching of NumeracyIn 2019 Collinsville State School will focus on increasing the rigour of their math curriculum. Each investigation will have a rubric attached to be used as a marking guide for teachers. The rubrics describe the processes students use as they work through each Investigation. They allow easy assessment of student proficiency, giving students and parents a clear understanding of what is required at each achievement standard, from A to E.

CSS - Teaching of ScienceCollinsville State School uses "Science as an Inquiry" for a basis of our science curriculum. Students actively engage in experiments and hands-on-learning to build their knowledge in this subject. Our school vertically aligns the teaching of science strands:Term 1: BiologyTerm 2: ChemistryTerm 3: Earth and SpaceTerm 4: Physics

DifferentiationThere is nothing more crucial than catering for every child in your class while teaching. At Collinsville State School we have numerous ways of ensuring rigorous differentiation. It is imperative that all staff follow the Whole School Intervention process flowchart. When requested, all teachers are to consider data and place all children in the class on a differentiation cone. Differentiation is also to be reflected in unit planning and in special provisions.

Observations/Feedback/CoachingSee below for a sample Lesson Observation and Feedback form.

Assessment and ModerationAssessment is an integral component of systematic curriculum delivery. Teachers plan and implement assessment to monitor and gather evidence of student learning and achievement against the relevant standards. Schools use assessment and reporting data to provide the curriculum in a way that supports continuous improvement in student learning and achievement.

Moderation processes align curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting; it promotes professional conversations and builds teaching expertise, provides consistency to the delivery of curriculum and assessment, and informs differentiation to meet individual student needs. Assessment and moderation is planned as part of the whole school curriculum, assessment and reporting plan and is included in each of the three levels of planning.

At Collinsville State School we moderate targeted assessments before planning, during the term and after completion.

Gifted and TalentedObjectives for students who are giftedEducation Queensland and Collinsville State School’s commitment to the education of students who are gifted will be demonstrated by:

a greater awareness of the prevalence and specific needs of students who are gifted the identification of all students who are gifted regardless of their ethnicity, location, (dis)ability, gender or

economic status meeting the specific needs of students who are gifted and improving their learning outcomes Cooperation and collaboration among teachers, parents/carers, students, education administrators and the

community to ensure students who are gifted have opportunities to develop their abilities.

Who are the Gifted? Students who are gifted excel, or are capable of excelling, in one or more areas such as general intelligence, specific academic studies, visual and performing arts, physical ability, creative thinking, interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. Giftedness in a student is commonly characterised by an advanced pace of learning, quality of thinking or capability for remarkably high standards of performance compared to students of the same age. Although these students are capable of outstanding achievement, the learning environment is pivotal to enabling them to demonstrate and develop their abilities. Students who are gifted are at risk of underachieving and disengaging from learning if they are not identified and catered for appropriately.

At Collinsville State School we refer expected Gifted and Talented students to the School Support Team.

Student Support Policy

'School Support Team' replaces 'Student Support Team' and will meet weekly on a Wednesday. The School Support Team is for students and staff. This team is Co-led by Claire and Bev. Teachers will rotate on a 3 weekly basis but are able to visit weekly if the need arises.

Flow Chart:

ClassDojoStudents receive Dojos for displaying the 4Be Behaviours. Classroom teachers track Dojos using the ClassDojo app. Students receive rewards when they receive a certain number of dojos.

Every 50 Dojos = Silver Dojo (Ticket handed out in class for recognition + Icy Pole) (See Appendix

250 Dojos = Principal Award on Parade and Prize Box Selection
