Call to Worship

L: We are invited to share in Christ's ministry of compassion.

P: We will widen our hearts so we might cradle the lost.

L: We are challenged to learn more about God each day.

P: We will open our minds so we might discern God's dreams for us.

L: We are summoned to let the Spirit be planted within us.

P: We will deepen our souls so we might grow in love.

*Hymn - “A Mighty Fortress is Our God” GTG # 275

*Prayer of Confession Leader: We have been entrusted with the message of the gospel, but

all too often act as if the memos from sin and death have more influence in our lives. Let us confess our sins, so we might know God's great love for us. ALL : O God our healer, we stand on the edge of your promises and hopes, yet cannot seem to let ourselves cross over into the life you intend for us. We seek praise from our families, yet are unable to tell them how much we love them; we care more about our needs and desires, than for the struggles of our neighbors; we think more about the trash we read and see than focusing on the Spirit of wisdom.

Forgive us, Everlasting God. Renew our lives with your grace; restore our hopes with your vision of tomorrow; refresh our spirits with your joy which comes to us new in each moment in the gift of your Child, Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

*Words of Assurance L: This moment, this morning, this day, and in all the days to come,

God's compassion and hope fill our lives. What joyous good news!

P: Our hope is not in vain. God forgives our sins, and is the dwelling

place for all people. Thanks be to God. Amen.

*Response “You are Holy” GTG #705

(choir sings once then congregation joins)

You are holy… You are mighty... You are worthy…Worthy of praise.

I will follow… I will listen… I will love you… All of my days.

*Sharing of the Peace

Leader: The peace of Christ be with you.

People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD

Children’s Sermon

(Children in Pre-K-5th grade will follow Mrs. Kolecki out

and can be picked up in the dining room after service.

Anthem -

Old Testament Lesson: Leviticus 19:1-2, 15-18

Psalm 1:1-6 (responsive)

L: Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the

P: but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they

meditate day and night.

L: They are like trees planted by streams of water, which yield their fruit in

its season, and their leaves do not wither. In all that they do, they prosper.

P: The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away.

L: Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgement,

nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous;

P: or the Lord watches over the way of the righteous,

but the way of the wicked will perish.

Sermon: “Everything Now is Holy” the Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew

*Affirmation of Faith - Brief Statement of Faith of the PCUSA

Leader: We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. People: The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. Leader: The same Spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the Church. People: In a broken and fearful world the Spirit gives us courage to pray without ceasing, to witness among all peoples to Christ as Lord and Savior, to unmask idolatries in Church and culture, to hear the voices of peoples long silenced, and to work with others for justice, freedom, and peace. Leader: In gratitude to God, empowered by the Spirit, we strive to serve Christ in our daily tasks and to live holy and joyful lives, People : even as we watch for God's new heaven and new earth, praying, Come, Lord Jesus!

GO IN GOD’S NAME

*Hymn: “Lord Make us More Holy” GTG #313

* Postlude “Holy Now” by Peter Mayer

When I was a boy, each Sunday we would go to church

Pay attention to the priest and he would read the holy word

Consecrate the holy bread -everyone would kneel and bow

Today the only difference is that Everything is holy now

Everything - everything- everything is holy now

When I was in Sunday School, we would learn about the time

Moses split the sea in two, Jesus made the water wine

I remember feeling sad miracles don’t happen still

Now I can’t keep track because everything’s a miracle

Everything -everything –everything is holy now

Wine from water is not so small

An even better magic trick is that anything is here at all.

So the challenging thing becomes not to look for a miracle-

but finding where there isn’t one.

When holy was rare at best , I barely wet my fingertips

Now I have to hold my breath like I’m swimming in a sea of it

Used to be a world half there,

Heaven’s second rate hand me down

But I walk it with a reverent air because everything is holy now

Everything -everything -everything is holy now.

Session Highlights

The finance committee reported that members are paying up their pledges and giving is running about the same as it was last year at this time. Our investments continue to be used to support our ministry.

The Pony Express Program has been organized and begins on Sunday October 19.

Christian Education Committee reported that a group of seven members are exploring the possibilities of expanding our chil-dren's educational programs to reach out to children and youth in our community. The session voted to move forward with these programs. The congregation will hear of these plans in more detail at a meeting to be scheduled for later this fall. We are very excited about this new opportunity to involve our younger members and reach out to serve our community.

The Property committee reported that they are continuing to assess the heating, AC, and electric needs of our building. We have qualified for a new electric service and have already saved $128.00 last month in electricity bills. A state program is paying for Concord Engineering Company to review our building needs.

We approved fundraisers for the youth group to raise money for their summer mission trip. The middle school youth will travel to Johnsonburg December 5th to 7th for a retreat.

Confirmation class taught by Pastor Kate begins in October. Adult Grow Groups taught by local Presbyterian pastors began

this month. The Session voted to make available the unused pews for

church members and the community for a donation to the church. See Barry Longmire if you are interested in one (or two!). You must transport.
