Dual Enrollment Program (DEP)
Delta College Dual Enrollment Program is for students enrolled in 9th - 12th grade and lets you get started on your college education, while still in high school. Courses are taken on high school campuses and are geared towards college and career readiness, with options in available in both Transfer and Career Pathways.
Through Dual Enrollment, you are a Delta college student on an accelerated path to a degree or certificate!
5
Perks of Dual Enrollment
- Courses are FREE!- Do not have to pay for fees or books- Classes are not open to the public. Only high school students can register. - Meet high school requirements by completing college courses- Teaches students how to navigate the college process- Provides guidance for success in college- Classes are part of the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum Certificate.
(IGETC)- Classes are focused, but not limited to, Business, Psychology, Pre-Health, or Admin of
Justice fields.

○ Student request
○ STAR REN results

as part of their 10th grade schedule.
● Each family must complete the CA Promise Grant regardless of income.
7

Interested in taking additional classes?
Students who are interested in taking classes on their own will receive counselor approval if:
● The classes will not be offered at Ben Holt;
● The student is responsible and on track for graduation; and
● The desired class is chosen from Area 2, 5, or 6 from the IGETC Chart (attached).
If students take classes that are not approved by their high school counselor, they risk the
chance of conflict in their future schedule.
Students can also choose something not listed on the IGETC Chart that might be related to an
area of interest (i.e. Graphic Art, Health Education, etc). Counselors will approve those as well,
just know they might not transfer (would depend on the school and your intended major).

AP Classes
Along with DEP courses, students are
strongly encouraged to take Advanced
Placements courses beginning their 10th
grade year.
Advanced Placement is a program run by the College Board (the makers of the SAT) that allows you to take courses at your high school, which can earn you college credit and/or qualify you for more advanced classes when you begin college.
11
AP Perks
If a college or university awards you advanced
placement based on your AP Exam scores, that
means you might be able to skip introductory
classes and go straight into higher-level classes.
It might also mean that you can skip courses
that the college requires students to take to
fulfill general education requirements.
Advanced placement is not the same thing as
receiving credit, which means you actually earn
points toward your college degree. Colleges
may offer both credit and placement, just
credit, or just placement for successful AP
scores. 12
They are designed to give you the experience of an intro-level college class while you’re still in high school.
Taking an AP class (or several!) is a great way to challenge yourself academically and show colleges that you're serious about your education. An AP class on your transcript signals stronger academic training, especially with high passing scores of 4 and 5 on the test.
AP Classes at Holt
We currently offer the following AP
classes:
● AP Psychology
● AP Biology
● AP Chemistry
● AP Computer Science Principles
● AP Statistics
● AP Calc
