While the standards may vary slightly from school to school, students must fulfill the following requirements. Look at the specific college for more information.
*Complete A-G Coursework *Maintain a minimum of 3.0 GPA
*Take SAT or ACT exam *Look at school eligibility index &
combine GPA + Exam Scores *Complete application (add personal
statement for UC) *Pay application fee
The following are the minimum requirements for enrollment. Check the specific university of interest for further information.
A-History/Social Science (2 years required)B-English (4 years required)C-Mathematics (3 years required, 4 years
recommended)D-Laboratory Science (2 years required, 3

Enroll in college prep coursework Explore colleges of interest Get involved in extracurricular activities Attend college fairs Research college costs and financial aid
Consider taking SAT Subject Area Exams in strong academic subject areas
Sign up for college prep coursework for the following fall
Pay attention to English summer reading lists and/or create one of your own
Enroll in summer school courses on high school campus, community college, or online
Plan to visit colleges during the summerWork part time and/or volunteer in
community outreach of interest
Enroll in college prep coursework Explore colleges of interest Get involved in extracurricular activities Sign up for PSAT exam Attend college fairs Research college costs and financial aid

Determine which colleges may be right for you.
Attend college nights and financial aid preparation sessions at school.
Plan to take either the SAT Reasoning Test or up to 3 SAT Subject Tests on one test day. Register to take SAT. Online sites are available.
Use your PSAT scores to prepare for SAT
Practice more seriously for SAT examsVisit a wide variety of colleges. Make a list of
15-20 colleges of interestPrepare and take AP examsSign up for college prep/AP courses for the fallWork part time and/or volunteer in community
outreach of interestTake campus tours and talk with admissions
counselors at top choice colleges. Bring a checklist
Make a calendar with college & financial aid application deadlines
Narrow college list to 5-10 campusesMake master calendar with the following: *test dates, fees, and deadlines *college application due dates *financial aid application deadlines *high school’s deadlines for transcript requestsAsk for recommendations-give resume, stamped
& addressed envelope, and any other formsWrite application essays-ask teachers, friends,
and parents to proofread themNovember 1- send SAT scores for early
admissions
Late October-Early November-Begin completing financial aid paperwork
Late October-Early November- Begin applying for scholarships
Have high school begin sending transcripts to colleges
Family keeps all pay stubs to determine income for financial aid
Apply for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
Male students 18 or older must register for selective service to receive financial aid
You will receive acceptance letters by mid-April.
Compare offers at different schoolsIf waitlisted at school of choice, contact
college admissions counselor to determine if fall enrollment remains a possibility
Send letter of intent & pay admission feeAsk high school to send final transcript to
college
