Dean's Message“Advance to world-class College of Management with innovative thinking, active service, and integrated collaboration.”

At present, the College includes 5 departments, 2 independent graduate institutes, and one EMBA. Recently, announced by one of the most influential college ranking publications, Global Views Monthly, the College placed in a ranking of 2013 Best Business Schools in Taiwan. We are publicly recognized for our excellence in all aspects.

We offer a number of services and resource materials that continue to enhance the research and teaching abilities of faculty at the College. Our research activities not only continue to shape the studies for business and management, but also keenly tolaunch new research interests in Finance, Sports Management and Technology Management. For faculty members, on a regular basis, the College coordinates forums, like Elite Forum, for knowledge/idea exchange. For students, domesticentrepreneurs and are invited to student seminars to share their experiences and perspectives. We expect to provide students with authentic experiences that they can complement the theories they’ve learned in the classroom.

Program of Innovation and Entrepreneuriship currently is under development at the College. We offer theoretical and practical knowledge, and hope to strengthen our engagement with real-world issues. To complete the courses, students will be requiring coming up with their own business plans and they will be evaluated by invited entrepreneurs and other industry practitioners.

Since 2009, the College has applied to be accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB). In 2013, the College finalized BBA Core Course (10 courses), MBA Core Courses (6 courses), and PhD Core Courses (11 courses), and has developed assessment plan accordingly. Our curriculums incorporateinternational, perspectives and highlight specialized skills and technology. We also set up Cornerstone Center, which creates alliances between academia, industry, and government. Given to that energy, we emphasize case study emphasizes on case study method, and, given to the energy and variety we equip, we plan to develop a case study center in the near future. In the long run, the College of Management surely demonstrates its quality assurance after a series of continuous improvement during the accreditation progress.

College HistoryFormerly known as College of Social Sciences and Management, in August 2011 the College was reorganized and renamed into the College of Management. It consists of 5 departments and 2 independent graduate institutes, 1 EMBA and 3 research centers.

Management has 77 full-time faculty members, including 38 professors, 25 associate professors, and 14 assistant professors. 99% have PhD degree –among them, 40% in the U.S. and 14% in the U.K. The remainders are from some of the first-tier universities in Taiwan.

At present, the College has 2,032 students, including 1002 in undergraduate programs, 378 in master’s programs, 70 in doctoral programs, 343 in executive master’s programs and 239 in evening Program. The College has always invested in cutting-edge research and recruited outstanding personnel, and created curriculum with a global perspective and professional training. We expect to become one of Taiwan’s top-tier research institutes and world-class university.

Under the goal of the College, being the key position of the regional academia-industry center, the case numbers and the funding received from National Science Council and academia-industrial cooperation are growing over the years.

International CooperationThe College is actively searching for the opportunities of cooperating with international schools and industries so as to establish the alignment of academy and mechanism of exchanging among faculty. Strategic MarketingThis domain emphasizes market segmentation, product positioning, and strategic planning of choosing target market, following the four Ps of marketing strategy and policy (product, price, promotion and place). The aim is to learn how to achieve the best management procedure between “developing and maintain the goal of the organization” and “recourse and market opportunity.” The curriculum includes Marketing Theory, Service Marketing and Management, and Brand Management and Strategy.

2. Logistics ManagementTaking advantage of the management technology to integrate goods flow, information flow, cash flow, and business flow, logistics management is concerned how to efficiently produce and distribute the accurate amount of goods to the exact place in the exact time at the lowest cost. The aim is to ensure the best cooperation of every physical distribution and maximize the efficiency of the business and economic benefit so as to satisfy the customers’ demand. The related courses are Decision of Logistics and Marketing, Channel Strategy and Management, and Electronic Commerce and Marketing.

3. Consumer BehaviorConsumer behavior is the study of individual, group, or organization engaging in the process of choosing, acquiring, using, and dealing with a product, service, experience or idea and the impacts on consumers and the society. Students learn the techniques and methods of market survey in the related courses so as to understand customers’ acknowledgement, attitudes, motives, choices, decisions, buying and using for the marketing strategy. Sports ScienceThe field of sports science consists of sports biomechanics, development of sports equipment, Sport and Exercise Nutrition, Exercise and Sport physiology, and Exercise and Sport Psychology. On the one hand, the institute develops the software of fitness test and, on the other hand, actively cooperates with domestic and international companies to design and develop spor ts and exercise equipments. Executive Master Program of Business Administration (EMBA) offers four concentrations: Business Administration, Finance, Marketing, and Accounting & Information Management. To coordinate the development and personnel training of the Central Taiwan Science Park, EMBA establishes “Business Management Group” in the Central Taiwan Science Park (2009-2013). In addition, to study the operations and experience of the Taiwanese businessmen in China and enhance the competitiveness and management abilities, EMBA also establishes “Cross-Strait Taiwanese Businessman Group” in Shanghai. Furthermore, EMBA founded “Business Leader Group” so as to transmit the successful experience of business management from Taiwan’s small and medium enterprise.

EMBA is operated in the model of degree program, designing and planning curriculum in the way of cross-departmental collaboration. In response to the structure of industry in central Taiwan and the feature of going to China for business, EMBA offers not only general business management but also courses closely related to management knowledge and skills of small and medium enterprise and cross-strait business. The curriculum includes theory of business, social responsibilities, experience sharing, and industrial-academic cooperation for the enterprise. The essential task of the EMBA is to provide a platform for interpersonal communicat ion and enhance the management abilities through case study that concentrates on the enterprise that the members of the EMBA from Taichung and Shanghai highly associate with. The anticipation of the EMBA is to establish an extensive case database of Taiwan’s small and medium enterprise and businessmen in China.

[Vision and Missions] The Cornerstone Center at NCHU-CoM is a cooperative unit of the College and a regional association, Entrepreneur Club of Central Taiwan. It manages to connect academia to enterprises, prepare future business leaders and provide service of innovative ideas exchange. Its mission is to create alliances with the College and domestic enterprises by i) establishing cooperative projects, ii) providing consulting and educational training service, iii) coordinating activities like forums and internships, vi) building partnership between the College and governmental organizations, China. [Vision and Missions]The aim of the Center for Industrial Development Research is to become a think tank for the government and industrial sectors, providing a consulting service, and thereby gradually developed into a globally recognized institution for industrial research. One of the center’s short-term strategic goals is to become an influential contributor to the industrial development of the Central Taiwan Science Park.Through a system of cooperation, we hope to effectively bring together the resources of the University’s Innovation Incubation Center, Technology Licensing Office, relevant departments in the college of management, and top management students from the EMBA program to expedite entrepreneurship. Simulated Trading Lab. provides statistics, calculation and testing models in finance researches. Students will have access to digital and networked world and market models on the exchange, which help them to get practical skills in stock market, and understand financial delivery, fund application, payment system, and finance network. The lab offers mock stock trading tools that gives students hands-on experiences through their interactions with the models and mentors. This training enables students to combine their education with authentic experiences, and become future e-Business talents.

The marketing media lab can be used for the classes with media content that require recording or live broadcasting for online distribution and special video effects. The lab includes a sound-proofed room for students or research subjects. A control room with a two-way mirror looking into the lab area. The marketing lab is perfect for research ranging from single subject deep interviews, to marketing simulations and group discussions. Lastly, the lab is perfect for both asynchronous and synchronous distance instruction.
