COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING(AUTONOMOUS)

GVP College of Engineering (GVPCOE) was established in 1996 for the promotion of quality

technical education in Andhra Pradesh. The college is very actively involved in a number

of research and consultancy projects. Because of its consistently good performance

since its inception, the College has been granted AUTONOMOUS STATUS w.e.f. 2009-10

and has been accredited by the NAAC in April, 2009 with 'A' Grade with a CGPA OF

3.47/4.00. All the undergraduate courses are accredited by the NBA with 4 out of 7

programmes getting accreditation for 5 years. The College has been selected in 2003 by

the Government of AP and the Government of Germany(GTZ) as their partner to establish

and administer an Institute called Indo-German Institute of Advanced Technology in

Visakhapatnam.

In 1999, after a gap of about 15 years, GVPCOE was the first private engineering college

to have started Civil Engineering Department, in the Andhra Pradesh State with an intake

of 30 students. The current intake is 120. The department also started an M.Tech

programs in Infrastructural Engineering & Management, in 2008, and Structural

Engineering in 2011 with an intake of 18 each. The department has well-qualified faculty

and non-teaching staff and well-equipped laboratories to impart training to the students.

The faculty are also working on internally & externally funded R&D projects and have

published their research in various journals and conferences. All the faculty are actively

involved in consultancy projects to the tune of Rs 2.0 Crores. The department has been

identified as a State Resource Institution (SRI) by Ministry of Home Affairs(New Delhi)

under NPCBEERM. The department has got 5-year accreditation by NBA in the very first

attempt, based on the recommendation of an inspection committee.

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

The construction demand our country is increasing and at the same time there is an

acute shortage of skilled labor. In this context Precast construction is a favorable answer.

While this is a proven technology adopted in western countries since several decades,

its application in our country has just taken. Already we are experiencing the benefit of

world renowned precast manufacturers who have started implementation of precast

technologies in India for various projects.

Although Precast construction is quite prevalent in Bridge construction, still it has to go

a long way in Building sector. Mumbai and Delhi are already constructing high rise

buildings 30 storied and above with using complete precast technology. With this we

believe many realtors and developers will shift their attention to precast construction

which is fast in construction, less labor intensive, durable and with excellent finish.

This seminar focuses on issues on designing, detailing, transportation and erection of

precast elements.
