Research statementWe have studied about the solar cell. It was manufactured in
1941 by Russel Oyl of Bell Laboratory. Since then, the
technology of low cost as well as of high- efficiency was a
matter of primary concern. However, photovoltaic technology
has not yet reached the level. For that reason, it is agreed that
these solar cell must be thin film type because thin film
process is costeffective in that it used much less raw
materials and automated mass-production process can be
realized.

Research statementIn the Dielectric Materials Laboratory, we have studied onpreparation of simple/complex-perovskite powders and associateddielectric/ferroelectric properties. Reaction routes for suchcompositions were also investigated by X-ray diffractometry (XRD).Much attention has especially been paid to the Pb-containingcompositions in terms of the dielectric relaxation behavior, along withdiffuse modes in the phase transition. Sintered ceramics were alsoexamined for microstructural developments by scanning electronmicroscopy (SEM). Recently, high- energy milling process has beenadditionally applied to the powder preparation for compositions(which are hard to synthesize by conventional methods) with somepromising results.

Research statementOur laboratory, MicroSystem and NanoEngineering (MSNE) Lab
focuses on the integration of MEMS technology and nano-
engineering. We are interested on novel engineering methods that
overcome limitations of classical micro/nano fabrication. Non-Si-
based materials, e.g. polymer, are getting more interests for
information technologies and life-science applications. The
engineering and scientific disciplines (Electrical Engineering,
Physical, Chemical and Life Sciences) have traditionally very different
educational approaches. We therefore foster interdisciplinary
research by strengthening the communication and collaboration
with colleagues from different disciplines and by training young
researchers in cross-disciplinary
projects. We have research projects
on shadow-masking technology for
micro/nano-lithography down to
bellow 70nm and fabrication of micro
fluidic system for cell analysis. Several
researches on fabrication of novel
microstructures and systems are also
on process.

Research statementIn Opto-Bio Mechatronics Lab, we are interested in various laser
application such as imaging, measurement, and machining. In the
imaging part, we are studying confocal microscopy to see
subcutaneous tissue without cutting skin. We are researching on
optical fiber sensor application which can measure target
temperature or stress without concerning environment influence.
Femtosecond laser micromachining which has advantage of
reduction in heat diffusivity on the mold metal surface is also one of
our interests. In addition to all these, other related laser applications
are studied.

Research statementResearch interests are the investigations of nano-, micro-, and
macro-scale dynamics of mechanical systems. Not only the
fundamental theories of mechanics but also numerical method and
experimental modal analysis are major tools in the study of dynamic
behaviors and stability of the systems. Specially, gyroscopic systems
such as rotating disks and translating media in fluid are main
reseach topics. Those problems are commonly found in HDD,
CD/DVD and web manufacturing processes, respectively. In addition,
micro-cantilever dynamics is an another interest of MsML (Multi-
scale Mechanics Lab.).

School of Architecture and Civil Engineering
Architecture
Overview
School of Architecture and Civil Engineering :Welcome to School of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Kyungpook National University. The objective of
the Schools is to prepare students to begin their practice of the profession and to address the challenges
facing architects, civil and architectural engineers in the 21st century. The School offers competitive programs
and facilities, such as creative studios, modern laboratories, state-of-the-art instructional aids and computer
equipment. Our ultimate goal is to incorporate architecture and engineering in our living environment for the
better future.
Department of Architecture :The Department of Architecture at Kyungpook National University is one of global leading institutions in
architectural education. It fundamentally seeks for its mission of Creative leadership, Practice based
Education and Identifying district architectural environment. Our design studio is to pursue architecture as a
humanistic and professional discipline, which integrate art and science through intellectural rigor, aesthetic
judgment, and technical understanding. Architectural education at Kyungpook National University is based
upon the premise that to be an architect in today’s complex and fast-changing, global society the architect
must have knowledge in a variety of areas beyond the profession. We encourage your interest in the School of
Architecture at the Kyungpook National University and invite you to join us as we continue the pursuit of
excellence.
Undergraduate Program :Students majoring in Architecture can earn a professional degree in five years, unlike the four-year
undergraduate and two-year master’s programs required at many schools. The program is designed for
students to spend their first three years in a core program that prepares for two more years of study in
architectural studios. Each studio is a group of either fourth or fifth year students, administrated by a master
architect and full-time faculty member. In the studio, students can design an architectural project to be built
on site, or plan the redevelopment of an urban neighborhood. Students will also learn to think and act
independently as well as how to fully cooperate within a group. By doing so, students will expand their
portfolio by enhancing their ability to research and document projects. This distinctive curriculum is designed
to stimulate architectural leadership and reflect real world architectural dynamics.
Graduate Program :The graduate degree programs in Architecture emphasize investigations in architectural design and
technology as well as studies in urban planning and design. While expanding the significance of such
investigations and studying through rigorous and critical thoughts, the graduate program also has
established real world connections to progressive practitioners and emerging global practices in order to

Research statementCurrently, architecturalparadigm has beenchanged to 3D designmethod which is moreunderstandable andexpressive than itsoriginal 2D one. Oneamong many factorscausing the change of
architectural paradigm is BIM. BIM is a digital paradigm shift, inmany ways similar to that of the CAD revolution of the 1980s and1990s. BIM is the technology of generating and further managing allthe building data during life-cycle of the building itself. We have studied on relationships between Architecture andComputer under the vision "Performance-based Design inArchitecture". In particular, The Digital Architectural Design Lab. atKyungpook National University led by Prof. Dr. -Ing. Seungyeon Choohas studied on 1) Building Information Modeling(BIM) 2) ComputerAided Architectural Design(CAAD) 3) Virtual Reality & ConvergenceTechnology(VR, AR, Energy) 4) Architectural Design.

Research statementOur working hypothesis is that it is possible to conceive the wholearchitectural problematic within the framework of the characteristicsof predominant modern space, that of contemporary industrialsociety. Architecure's function is to treat the visible part of that space.Architecture's capacity to assimilate programmatic, economic, technical, contextual and social data depends on a controlledcommand of the project.
