The student exchange programme is vital to developing the international perspectives of our
students. Through sustained and concerted efforts, we have managed to cultivate linkages
with many reputable universities in different parts of the world. As of December 2005, the
CityU’s Faculty of Business (FB) is a young and dynamic
business school. As a pre-eminent provider of business
education in Hong Kong, an international business and
finance centre, FB takes advantage of Hong Kong’s unique
position of having the motherland’s backing while reaching
out to the world. Our study programmes produce
graduates who are not only conversant with subject
knowledge and professional skills, but are also
international in outlook. Internationalization is a key
element of FB’s strategic development.

student body, we have appointed a Director of International Exchange, and have set up a
Committee on International Exchange with membership drawn from all departments to formulate
policies and oversee exchange activities in the Faculty. One initiative currently being explored is
arranging for student participation in overseas voluntary organizations whereby students gain
valuable international experience while contributing to a worthwhile cause. We have also drawn up a
3-year plan to promote international student exchange activities through the commitment of up to
HK$10m each year, which will provide financial sponsorships to enable about 50% of students to
participate in overseas student exchange programmes. This issue of the FB Bulletin offers a glimpse
of some of our student activities and our international student exchange programme.

Faculty of Business has signed exchange
agreements with universities in Europe,
North America, South America,
Australia, Asia and Africa. Students can
select from over 70 partner institutions
to spend their study abroad, and with
these growing choices and options, the
number of students participating in
international exchange has continued to increase. In the academic year
2005-06, the Faculty of Business will send a total of 126 students
abroad, while we will be receiving 150 incoming students from around the
world. The commitment of resources will no doubt further enhance our
international student exchange which is instrumental to internationalizing
our student body.

Samantha Brinkhuis, a student from Erasmus University Rotterdam, took
advantage of the exchange period at CityU to visit China and neighbouring
