Mission

CAHS - the primary advocate in the state of Texas for underserved student populations and limited resource clientele with a dedication to foster academic excellence, increase health and wellbeing and enhance economic opportunities through research, education and service in agriculture and the human sciences.

Strategic Plan

Vision 1 – Student Magnet The CAHS will lead and facilitate initiatives that establish PVAMU as a student magnet. Vision 2 – Gateway to Opportunity The CAHS will lead and facilitate initiatives that establish PVAMU as the leading gateway to opportunities in the field of agriculture and human sciences.

Vision 3 – Infrastructure that Sets CAHS Apart (The One College Concept) The CAHS will be the proactive visionary unit to build and maintain an organizational infrastructure that sets PVAMU apart, nationally and globally. Vision 4 – Service the community with programs that position CAHS for state funding match and alternative funding sources The CAHS will deliver quality-programming initiatives that enhance PVAMU as one of the top land-grant institutions in the nation for research, academics, and extension.

Energy Audit Program

CED staff conducted a 40 hour 3 week program to successfully conduct Energy Audit Class Participants from Jefferson, Harris and surrounding counties.

- 30 course participants

- 22 Passed exams

- 22 received National BPI Certification

- 2 individuals received contracts $100,000+

- 1 individual has increased income x3

Agriculture & Natural Resources (cont’d)

- Micro Loan Program: 60 loan applications submitted by producers with 75% totaling $7,759,650.

- AgNR unit received $928,000 in external funds to train producers in areas related to the new Farm Bill.

- A partnership with the CAHS and NRCS resulted in 12 high tunnel greenhouses for producers to grow heirloom vegetables and strawberries.
