CARNEGIE MELLON CERTIFICATIONCongratulations to Stafford Middle School Inclusion/Special Education Teacher Sean Dowiak
on becoming Carnegie Mellon-certified for Robotics.
Carnegie Mellon certification ranks among the top certifications for Robotics instructors in
the United States.
Dowiak, who has worked at Stafford MSD for 14 years, became the ninth Carnegie Mellon-
certified Robotics instructor in the District.
“We are showing the kids why it’s important to learn Robotics, and they see how many real
world applications there are in Robotics,” Dowiak said.
He recently became the assistant coach to Byron Thompson, for the Stafford Middle School
Robotics Team.
Stafford Elementary teacher Johnunthon Denley is closing in on becoming the District’s 10th
Carnegie Mellon-certified instructor.
“Mr. (Frank) Hoang was my teacher in high school,” said Denley, a 2012 Stafford High School
graduate.
Denley became the assistant coach for the Stafford Elementary Robotics Team. Head coach
Linda Mankin chose Denley as her successor, upon her retirement.
“The kids are so blessed to have a Robotics Program available at this age,” Denley said.
COUNCIL MEMBER CHEN RAISES $70,000 FOR STAFFORD BAND TRIP
The championship-caliber Stafford High Mighty Spartan
Marching Band received an invitation to perform in the
prestigious Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day 2020 in New
Orleans.
Stafford High Band Director Rod Rodriguez knew it would take
a large effort to raise money for the trip, which includes
participation in the Sugar Bowl Parade as well.
Stafford City Council Member Alice Chen, who was elected in
June, worked diligently to raise a total of $70,000 for the
Band’s historic trip. The donors included Classic Chevrolet of
Sugar Land, Wal-Mart and more.
At the Nov. 11 Stafford MSD Board Meeting, Chen and Rodriguez
accepted a $10,000 donation from the Aspiration Foundation.

quickly with the 2017 Bond Project, the District and
the City of Stafford are working tirelessly to save
taxpayer dollars.

SPARTANS’ COMEBACK SEASONIt wasn't the outcome we wanted or expected, but the
Stafford High Football Team has a lot to be proud of,
regarding this season.
The Spartans won five of their last six games, after an 0-
4 start and came within a minute of winning a District
Championship.
We wish the 17 seniors the best going forward, and we
know the Spartans will be ready to build upon this
year's progress when they take the field in 2020.
Four of the 10 teams on Stafford’s schedule are still in
the playoffs.
The Spartans will open the 2020 season against Class
5A Angleton.
SMSD ADDS SHAREIT APPWE HAVE EXCITING NEWS THAT WE’VE RECENTLY IMPLEMENTED SHAREIT, AN
ANONYMOUS REPORTING PLATFORM FOR OUR SCHOOL COMMUNITY!
MANY SCHOOLS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ARE IMPLEMENTING ANONYMOUS
REPORTING TOOLS AS A WAY TO CONNECT WITH STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY
MEMBERS WHO MAY BE FEARFUL OF SPEAKING UP OR FEEL LIKE THEY AREN’T ABLE TO
USE THEIR VOICE ON A PUBLIC PLATFORM.
WE CHOSE SHAREIT OVER OTHER ANONYMOUS REPORTING TOOLS BECAUSE IT
ALLOWS COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SUBMIT NOT JUST THE ISSUES AND CONCERNS
THEY HAVE, BUT ALSO THE GOOD THINGS THAT THEY SEE HAPPENING IN OUR SCHOOL
COMMUNITY.
WE BELIEVE THIS SUPPORTS OUR HOLISTIC APPROACH TO BUILDING A SAFER
SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE. WE WELCOME YOU TO GET INVOLVED AND
SUBMIT WHAT YOU’RE SEEING, HEARING OR FEELING - WHETHER IT BE GOOD, BAD OR
SAD. THE SHAREIT WIDGET CAN BE FOUND ON THE HOME PAGE OF THE SCHOOL
WEBSITE IN THE LOWER RIGHT HAND CORNER. WWW.STAFFORDMSD.ORG
