.The Utah Antiques Dealers Association hasat last been officially organized, and offic-ers elected. Elected President was PennyMcLaughlin (Gingerbread Antiques), NateBischoff (Bearcat Antiques) Vice President,Dennis Barker (New Century Collector) Sec-retary and Fred Hightower (Moriarty’s An-tiques) Treasurer. Most of the dealers at-tending the meeting immediately joined, and the association seems off to an excel-lent start.
Along with the new dealers association, anorganization called the “Antiques & ArtsPreservation Committee of Utah” has alsobeen formed. The purpose of this organiza-tion is to lobby the Utah legislature regard-ing antiques shop issues. Of primary con-cern is the proposed inclusion of Utah an-tiques dealers in the Utah Pawnshop andSecondhand Merchandise Transaction Infor-mation act, likely to be refiled again by Rep-resentative Rebecca Lockhart in the cominglegislative session. Officers elected to thisorganization are Scott Evans (Euro TreasuresAntiques) President, Randy Tanski (SandyAntiques Mall) Vice President and LesSchofield (Estates & Remainders) Secretary/Treasurer. The work these volunteers willbe undertaking is of vast importance to allUtah antiques dealers. Everyone needs tosupport this group, as their success or fail-ure will have a profound impact on all ofour antiques related businesses.

Something for everyone
The Stan Sanders Antique Bottle Museumwas permanently closed on August 27th,2008, with the passing of long time collectorof everything Utah, the “black hole” of Utahcollectors, Stan Sanders. Stan was a lifelongcollector of almost everything, but he had aparticular passion for anything Utah.Among his Utah collections alone, Stancollected Utah bottles and crocks, Utahadvertising, both paper and artifacts, Utahpostcards, Utah postal history, Utah tokens, and virtually anything from Utah, bothancient and modern.
He also had a passion for bottles andinsulators, golfing collectibles, Utah boxingmemorabilia, milk bottles, drugstore bottles, whiskey crocks, soda bottles, Utah Stars,Utes, Utah Jazz, Golden Eagles and almostany Utah sports memorabilia; Utahbreweries and distilleries, stamps, rocks, coins, hot sauce bottles, stuffed animals, patent medicines, duck decoys, advertising, food and tobacco tins, Police badges andpatches, Saltair, and dozens and dozens ofother fields.
Stan Sanders also had a lifelong passion forsports and avidly followed The Utah Stars, the Golden Eagles, The Utah Jazz and theUtes. He founded his own basketball andslow pitch softball teams, which were bothlong running champions. His SandersWindow Shade basketball team with thelikes of Jerry McCleary, Sherm Crump, PearlPollard, Gary Hale, Bruce Goodrich, ClaytonWilkinson and others still hold the recordof most consecutive games won, 121 straightwins over many years in the early 1960s. Healso had a passion for fishing, duck huntingand golf. He was also an avid race carenthusiast and used to drive stock cars atthe old Hippodrome and FairgroundsSpeedways.
.
He also had a passion for research andcompiled dozens of volumes on some of hisfavorite hobbies including saloons and bars, breweries and distilleries, drug stores, dairies, soda pop companies and many othersubjects. He organized the first antique bottleshow in Utah, founded many clubs, frompostcards to fishing, and was active inalmost everything in the collectibles field inthe state. Stan Sanders was truly the “blackhole” of Utah collectors. There is not likelyto ever be a Utah collector like ‘Utah Stan”.
Stan Sanders1927 - 2008
Our condolences to Stans family, we knowthat Stan will be greatly missed by bis manyfriends, and the entire antiques community

CONSIGN DESIGN
Consign Design is definitely one of the more charming shops I’ve visited in a while. The brain-child of owners Denna Hemingway and her sister in law Shauna Broome, Consign Design, located at 3556 So. 5600 W. in West Valley, has a style all its own. Like many of the newer shops around town, Consign Design offers a mixture of antiques, décor and “shabby chic”, but does so in a most distinctive fashion. The shops motif, creates a feeling of shopping in an old fashioned village, with quaint little storefronts. The mix of consign-ers, which includes experienced antiques dealers along with craft and decor dealers means the shop offers something for almost any taste. When ask, how she would describe her new shop, Denna re-plied “My current shop has an environment of a charming blend of vintage furnishings and de-cor. A light and friendly atmosphere of profes-
sionally styled vignettes.
Owner Denna Hemingway, a well seasoned, longtime Utah antiques dealer, who started in the business in 1985, when she fell in love with a Fox print that she found at Joe's antique store in Copperton, also holds another distinction. In over 20 years experience in the An-tiques business, Denna has
sold antiques in Park City and Nephi, had space in the Antiquer, and the Sandy An-tiques Mall, and during the 1980s, owned Antiques West, which was the first shop profiled by the New Century Collector in its début issue in 1989. As you can tell, Denna brings a wealth of experience to her new shop, which appears
to be well suited to the current antiques market. So, lets all get out and support this great new shop. Whatever you’re looking for , from antiques to gently used furniture, country décor or just plain ole nick knacks, Consign Design is a great place to get started.

ANTIQUES COLLECTORS
Have you ever wondered just what the heck your antiques dealer was talking about? Well, thisdictionary of antiques terms will help you turn that gibberish into useful information. We’re startingright where you would guess, with A, and each issue we will go on to the next letter. To save you time, and us space, we will be editing out the more arcane entries (don’t worry, even your dealer doesn’tknow what they mean). Before long, you’ll be understanding all that antiques shop jargon, and talkinglike a pro.
