It turns out that our brains use the same intelligent guessing process to reconstruct the past, in addition to using it help perceive the world. Memory itself is not like a video-recording, with a moment-by-moment sensory image. In fact, it’s more like a puzzle: we piece together our memories, based on both what we actually remember and what seems most likely given our knowledge of the world. Just as we make educated guesses in perception, our minds’ best educated guesses help “fill in the gaps” of memory, reconstructing the most plausible picture of what happened in our past.'

A selection of recent oil paintings and other new works including digital collage by Cape Town based artist, CornéTheron will be on view at the DEAD BUNNY SOCIETY project space in Ellis House, New Doornfontein, Johannesburg from the 22nd of July.
In this body of work Theron has decided to base her paintings and collage on vintage photographic portraits of individuals in the art and design industry that inspires her own work as an artist. It is a narra-tive between two generations describing the processes of becoming who we are.
BIOGRAPHY‘Corné Theron is a contemporary figurative artist. She was born in Worcester on 7 January 1974. She matriculated in Bloemfontein and went on to study law at the University of the Orange Free State, gradu-ating in 1997 with an LLB, after which she married and moved to Swellendam. She currently lives on a wine farm in the Breedekloof.
She practised as a conveyancer for two years, but resigned and started writing and illustrating a children’s book. This set her on the path of the arts and she took private art classes. She participated in several exhibitions and was shortlisted for the 2017 Taxi Art Award.
She has sold works to collectors in various parts of the country and overseas.’
