SET DESIGN

The set is Rose’s efficiency apartment which is new and it is not completely furnished. The set has to look missy and the furniture should not look fancy as well based on the low income of Rose’s job. Based on Rose’s style the color of her furniture will not be bright but rather dark. To make the set perfectly reflect the theme of the play, the objects (furniture) will not be noticeable or weirdly large so the concentration of the audiences will be on the actors.

The set mainly composed of five pieces of furniture:

1/ Bed with a wooden frame, and the bed look neat but cheap. The bed size is single since she is single and living alone.

2/ A wooden desk with no special details on it.

3/ An old regular refrigerator in a white color.

4/ A wooden chair.

5/ A cheap short curtains that made of velvet and has a Maroon color.

COSTUMES DESIGN

Rose is a young girl who are not fit to her age. She is a lot older in personality than her age. Therefore, she should wear long pants. The long pants should be dark in color. The sweater she should wear has to be dark in color too but not as dark as the pants. These dark colors represent her life and how sad she is. The clothes should be more for a 35 years old woman and should not be too stylish.

ROSE’S CLOTHES

For Cliff, he will wear a normal jeans and not skinny one. The sweater should be made of wool and larger than his size. This means that the sweater should be perfect for his age but larger in size. This is because he is a truck driver that travels a lot and the perfection in clothes is not his number one priority.

CLIFF’S CLOTHES

DIRECTION

One of the major tasks for a play director is casting the right actors for their roles. In the woolgatherer, shawn Hatosy should play Cliffs role in the play. Hatosy looks could help the audience to understand Cliff’s character more efficiently.

On the other hand, Rose’s character should be played by Amanda Seyfried because of her face expressions that can help the viewer to get an idea of how innocent Rose is.

THE CASTS

Another important job for the director is to make sure that everything fits together perfectly to present the right theme of the play.

The director should also guide the set designer , the lights , and the costumes designer in order for all the elements to fit.

Finally, the director should advice the actors so that they live the atmosphere that was built earlier by all the elements( set designing , lights, and costumes).
