Indoor Air Quality.
Columbia engineered wood fl ooring meets or exceeds the most stringent formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products in the world.
Did you know?
• The air inside your home can be more polluted than the air outside. Regardless of where you live, your home can have two to fi ve more times pollution.4
• Most composite wood products5 are manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which contributes to elevated formaldehyde emissions. Formaldehyde is designated a toxic air contaminant (TAC) in California with no safe level of exposure, and state law requires the Air Resources Board (CARB) to take action to reduce human exposure to TAC's6.
Columbia Flooring Solution! Our manufacturing process features patented PureBond® Technology. PureBond® is an innovation that replaces urea-formaldehyde traditionally used in the manufacture of composite wood products. Because Columbia Flooring’s engineered wood fl oors use PureBond® Technology, we have eliminated formaldehyde emissions associated with UF adhesives in our fl oors. And that means lower formaldehyde emissions that may contribute to better indoor air quality for the home.
CARB Phase 2 Certifi edColumbia Flooring is one of the fi rst in the wood fl ooring industry to achieve Phase 2 Certifi cations from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) — a Division of the California EPA responsible for improving air quality in California by establishing limits for air contaminants, such as formaldehyde emissions from composite products.
FloorScore® Certifi edColumbia Flooring is the fi rst company to achieve FloorScore® certifi cation for engineered wood fl ooring. FloorScore® tests in accordance with CHPS Section O1350, which was established by the California Offi ce of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The U.S. Green Building Council accepts FloorScore® certifi ed products as compliant with LEED® Green Building Rating Systems™
for low-emitting materials.7
LEED® CompliantOur products are compliant with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating Systems™ and may contribute toward LEED® points for low-emitting materials.

Tidewater“ While traveling along the East Coast, we came across a grand old house that was rented for weddings and local celebrations. We wandered up the lane and saw the door to the ballroom had been left open. Upon venturing inside, we found a magnificent floor. It seemed to be part of an old barn that had been torn down for use in the ballroom. The rough-hewn planks and hand-scraped grooves had been softened by years of horses’ hooves, and later by brides’ slippers. Now the rich patina seemed mellowed like a fine, aged wine. This is the floor I want for my dream home.”

Silverton“ It was during our annual ski adventure that we came upon a turn-of-the-century ski lodge with all of the charm of a bygone era. The owners invited us in to see the rustic, handmade furnishings. Breathtaking mountain views. Magnificent natural stone fireplace. And a split, knotted floor that emulated the exposed, mineral-streaked wood beams in the towering ceiling. Both looked to have been harvested from the surrounding mountain timber. It was just the comfortable, familiar feeling that was perfect for floors in my home.”

TidewaterTidewaterHayden“ My friend and I decided to make one last detour down a dusty, gravel road when we saw the sign for the local art fair. It was getting late in the day, but we couldn’t resist the opportunity to look for one more treasure before heading home. And then I saw it. The most exquisite, hand-made walnut bowl. It almost looked hand-painted, with its richly defined graining and large, swirling knots. When I picked it up, it felt even more beautiful than it looked. Smooth and warm. A found treasure that inspired the artistic wood floor in my home.”

We wandered up the lane and saw the door to the ballroom had been left open. Upon venturing inside, we found a magnificent floor. Pembridge“ My husband and I were driving in North Georgia when we discovered Pembridge house. It was a classic Antebellum home with grand white columns spanning the front. As luck would have it, the owner invited us inside. We were immediately taken by the ambience — old southern style with truly elegant rustic floors. It was as if time stood still in this estate. You could almost see young women waltzing across the room, their ruffled hoop skirts skimming across the rich patina of the wood. I knew in that moment that I wanted those floors in our home.”

Claremont“ Inspired by questions my daughter had about her great-grandmother’s life, the two of us embarked on a journey to the northeast village of my ancestors to explore our family tree. As amateur detectives, our first stop was the original City Hall where my family documented life’s milestones. As we walked on the ancient plank floor, embellished by the scraping and random imperfections from decades of footsteps, I felt a connection to people I had never met … and now never wanted to forget. Today, with a floor just as unique in my own home, the memories from that experience are always with me.”

Gunnison“ Each year, we escape to the mountains to enjoy the beautiful fall foliage, a time to reconnect with the elements. We love staying at different bed and breakfasts for each of our trips, as they never disappoint in their rustic charm. A favorite family tradition is to gather together around the fireplace at the end of each day – simply gazing at the warm flames or watching the relaxing light from the fire as it dances across soft-scraped hardwood floors. Now we are reminded of the comfort of those special evenings together, every time we come home.”

Amelia“ To me, the best part of traveling is discovering the shops of talented local artisans, where I can purchase truly unique pieces for my home. During my visit to the barrier islands, I stumbled upon a furniture shop, filled with authentic, one-of-a-kind items. It was obvious that creating beautiful furniture was this artisan’s craft, not his job. And it showed in the hand-scraped detailing. Heavily planed finishes. And rich, wood textures. That inspired me to find a floor that’s just as authentic.”

Ashlynn“ During my childhood, the family cottage was our peaceful refuge away from hectic city life. Sun streaming through the windows had softened the paint on the walls. The floor was warm and full of personality, with woodgrain deeply weathered by the salt in the air. Worn by our family’s summer vacations at the shore — where bare feet were a daily standard and swimsuits always hung on the line. Years later when I went to remodel our townhouse, I searched for a similar floor. Something beautifully aged to give the room that feeling — of days spent without pretense … only comfort.”

Hatteras“ Every summer, we rent the same beach house on the barrier islands off the Southeast coast. My favorite part of the week is when I slip quietly out of bed, while the rest of the family sleeps, and walk out onto the beach to watch the sunrise over the ocean. I can still hear the surf pounding, then see it rolling through the piles of driftwood, working away at the wood, exposing the deeply textured grain. The elements relentlessly leaving their beautiful signature. That image inspired my vision of a truly natural floor weathered by years of exposure to waves, sand and sun.”

It’s easy to select a floor to tell your unique story
Because Columbia Flooring offers such a beautiful variety of options, there are many details to consider when choosing a floor — from color and finish to location and maintenance.
Whether you’re choosing your floor based on color or by plank width, we make it easy to find the floor that’s perfect for your home. Learn about the flooring options below, including flooring construction, species attributes, color characteristics, wood grading classifications, plank details and coordinating accessories. Then, use the corresponding icons and ratings to quickly compare your favorite floors.
Flooring Construction
Columbia hardwood floors come in two distinct construction types — solid and engineered.
Both types of our hardwood flooring are available in a beautiful selection of wood species and colors. No matter which you choose, you’ll enjoy a premium hardwood floor offering rich graining and genuine beauty. The differences between the two types are how they are constructed, their reaction to climate changes and how/where they should be installed. See the chart below for more details.
SOLID ENGINEERED
Construction: Each plank is milled from a single piece of solid lumber.
Reaction to Climate Changes*: More susceptible to humidity and temperature changes.
Installation: Can be installed in areas that are on or above grade only. Depending on application, may be stapled or nailed over most wood subfloors.
Construction: Each layer of Columbia’s cross-grained products is fused under heat and pressure for added strength —resulting in floors that resist expansion and contraction.
Reaction to Climate Changes*: Highly stable, with minimal susceptibility to relative humidity. The layered construction produces joints less likely to gap due to shrinkage and expansion resulting from seasonal temperature and humidity changes.
Installation: Stability of construction allows installation anywhere in your home — below, on or above grade. It can be floated, glued, stapled or nailed over most subfloors, including concrete.
(Uniclic® floors: Float or Glue only.)
* We do not recommend either type of hardwood flooring be installed in high-moisture areas, including bathrooms. High moisture can cause unfavorable conditions for any hardwood flooring type.

Each wood species also offers unique attributes, including a hardness rating. The chart at left shows this rating as measured by the Janka test, which measures the force necessary to embed a .444-inch steel ball halfway into each species. Although no species is impervious to indentation, the higher the ranking the less likely this will happen with normal usage.

We offer a beautiful variety of wood species.
From traditional oak to rustic hickory, Columbia Flooring offers products that use the finest American hardwoods.
Tongue & Groove
Traditional installation which allows individual planks to be joined together in a uniformly flat surface. Available for both solid and engineered floor construction.
Patented innovation which allows planks to click together easily and quickly with no gaps. Available in engineered floor construction only. See page 1 for complete details.
Keep in mind that many wood species change in color or tone with exposure to light. This color change is gradual and can occur with any wood product. The photosensitivity chart to the right ranks floors from “stable” to 10, with “stable” being the least likely to alter in color with exposure to light, while 10 represents a more dramatic change.
Example:
A cherry hardwood floor has a photosensitivity rating of 7. If a rug is placed on top of the cherry floor, it is likely that a rug outline will be seen if the floor experiences prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Grading Classes
Just as every tree is unique, so is every single plank of real hardwood flooring. It is very difficult for you to know exactly what your floor will look like based on just a sample and photography. To assist you in your buying choice we have divided our product lines into four simple classes.
Go to our class characteristic chart on page 69-70 for more details.

Cleaning Your Floor
We are proud to offer Floorcare Essentials cleaning products which have been specifically designed to care for your solid and engineered hardwood flooring. Floorcare Essentials have earned the distinguished US Environmental Protection Agency’s “Design for the Environment” seal, identifying products that meet high performance standards while simultaneously reducing environmental impact. You can be assured that Floorcare Essentials products are safe for use around people and pets.
Columbia hardwood floors are easy to maintain and require no waxing. Regular care will keep your floor looking its best for years to come.
– Vacuum or sweep to remove dirt and grime that could scratch the floor. We recommend you avoid using the vacuum’s beater bar.
– Wipe the floor clean using a microfiber mop and Floorcare Essentials Hardwood and Laminate Cleaner, available from your flooring retailer.
– Avoid damp-mopping your floor and refrain from using soaps, wax, liquid detergent or other household cleaning products on your hardwood floor.
– Avoid steam cleaners and floor scrubbing machines.
Preventing Damage
Follow these simple steps to help prevent damage to your Columbia hardwood floor:– Use exterior and interior walk off mats at all exterior
entrances. Walk off mats should be routinely maintained to avoid becoming a soil source.
– Sweep or vacuum regularly to prevent build-up of damaging dirt and grit.
– Promptly remove spills using hardwood floor cleaner and a clean cloth.
– Use felt protectors under chairs and heavy pieces of furniture.
– Use a dolly and protective plywood sheets when moving furniture or appliances.
– Remove shoes with damaged or spiked heels before walking on your floor.
– Keep pets’ nails trimmed and paws clean.– Close drapes or blinds during hours of direct sunlight to
avoid discoloration.
Columbia Flooring stands behind our products by offering some of the industry’s best warranties on our solid and engineered hardwood floors. So you can feel confident that your floor not only looks beautiful, it’s beautifully made.
Columbia Solid Hardwood Flooring Full Lifetime Structural Warranty
Columbia Flooring warrants that your Columbia solid hardwood flooring will be free from manufacturing defects, when used under normal household conditions, for as long as you own your home.
Columbia Solid Hardwood Flooring Finish Warranty
Columbia Flooring warrants that its factory-applied finish, when used under normal household conditions*, will not wear through or peel during the warranty period applicable to the Columbia hardwood flooring product you have purchased. See product sample or your retailer for duration of warranty on specific products.
Columbia Engineered Hardwood Flooring Full Lifetime Structural Warranty
Columbia Flooring warrants that the plies of your Columbia engineered wood flooring products will not separate, under normal household conditions*, for as long as you own your home.
Columbia Engineered Hardwood Flooring Full Lifetime Moisture Warranty
Columbia Flooring warrants our engineered wood flooring products against moisture damage due to topical spills or subfloor moisture for as long as you own the home. Topical spills of normal household substances (food and beverage) must be removed promptly. Topical spills allowed to remain on the floor for any considerable time will damage the Columbia Wood Floor and will void your warranty. Flooding, acts of God, plumbing accidents, leaking appliances (icemakers, dishwashers, clothes washers, etc.) are not topical spills and are not covered by this warranty.
Columbia engineered wood products may be installed on, above or below grade on common subfloors and are warranted against subfloor moisture if certain conditions are met.
If the engineered floor fails due to the incursion of moisture from the subfloor, Columbia will replace the damaged material for one time only, provided that testing approved by Columbia indicates that moisture penetrated the subfloor. This includes flooring only.

Indoor Air QualityColumbia engineered wood flooring meets or exceeds the most stringent formaldehyde emissions standards for composite wood products in the world.
Did you know? • The air inside your home can be more polluted than the air outside. Regardless of
where you live, your home can have two to five more times pollution.1
• Most composite wood products2 are manufactured with urea formaldehyde (UF), which contributes to elevated formaldehyde emissions. Formaldehyde is designated a toxic air contaminant (TAC) in California with no safe level of exposure, and state law requires the Air Resources Board (CARB) to take action to reduce human exposure to TAC's3.
Columbia Flooring Solution! Our manufacturing process features patented PureBond® Technology. PureBond® is a new innovation replacing urea-formaldehyde traditionally used in the manufacture of composite wood products. Because Columbia Flooring’s engineered wood floors use PureBond® Technology, we have eliminated formaldehyde emissions associated with UF adhesives in our floors. And that means lower formaldehyde emissions that may contribute to better indoor air quality for the home.
CARB Phase 2 Certified Columbia Flooring is one of the first in the wood flooring industry to achieve Phase 2 Certifications from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) — a Division of the California EPA responsible for improving air quality in California by establishing limits for air contaminants, such as formaldehyde emissions from composite products.
FloorScore™ Certified Columbia Flooring is the first company to achieve FloorScore™ certification for engineered wood flooring. FloorScore™ tests in accordance with CHPS Section O1350, which was established by the California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The U.S. Green Building Council accepts FloorScore™ certified products as compliant with LEED® Green Building Rating Systems™ for low-emitting materials.4
LEED® Compliant Our products are compliant with Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating Systems™ and may contribute toward LEED® points for low-emitting materials.5
Crafted from renewable resources in the U.S.A.• Most Columbia Flooring hardwood products are certified
AHMI6 Verified Sustainable.7 (Appalachian Hardwood Manufacturing, Inc.)
• The Appalachian hardwood territory includes more than 65.7 million acres in the eastern U.S. and provides the world a bounty of the finest hardwood species. The AHMI has verified data from the U.S. Forest Service that timber harvested from the Appalachian hardwood territory is able to meet present needs without compromising those of future generations by growing an average of 2.45 trees for every 1 tree that is harvested. 5
Quality FocusedManufacturingOur goal is to craft original floors that speak to our desire for quality, authenticity and natural beauty. The Columbia Flooring Quality Team has over 130 years of combined experience and dedication to crafting the art of the floor. Whether it’s color management or state of the art technology, Columbia is dedicated to providing you with top quality and design for your home.
• Unmatched Quality Assurance With our 20 point inspection process, our manufacturing plants ensure top quality products.
• Rigid Raw Material Standards Rigid purchasing standards and quality inspections ensure nothing but top quality materials go into your floors.
• Digital Optical Grading System (DOGS) Columbia Flooring is one of the only wood manufacturers that has installed WoodEye® technology. This one-of-a-kind WoodEye® optical scanner inspects and grades each board to eliminate defects not visible to the human eye.
• Precision Milling With a manufacturing plant that has been called the “Wood Plant of the Future” we create an unrivaled precision not yet seen in the industry.
• Color Management To create consistency in the color of your floor, we match all finished product to a set of color boards. Currently we are 98% on target, unheard of in the hardwood industry.
GreenworksWe’re constantly seeking new ways to recycle, reduce, reuse, recover and renew. You can rest assured that whether you select solid or engineered hardwood, your new Columbia Flooring product will not only look beautiful in your home — it is engineered to preserve the environment around you.
Lacey Act CompliantThe Columbia Flooring brand takes our position as an industry leader very seriously when it comes to Lacey Act compliance. Our adherence to the requirements of the expanded Lacey Act gives consumers full confidence they are purchasing flooring that meets the strictest wood sourcing standards in the world.
Made In The U.S.A.Because Columbia Flooring hardwood products are domestically manufactured using Appalachian grown timber, fewer greenhouse gas emissions are generated in transport to retail when compared to imported products.

Getting Started
Step 1: Choose Your Category
What’s Your Style? Our color-coded system quickly identifies three distinct hardwood flooring categories.
Character floors with crafted details Domestic Exotic floors (Walnut, Cherry, Maple and Hickory) Traditional Oak floors
Species HardnessWe offer a beautiful variety of wood species. Each wood species offers unique attributes, including a hardness rating. The chart below shows this rating as measured by the Janka test, which measures the force necessary to embed a .444-inch steel ball halfway into each species. Although no species is impervious to indentation, the higher the ranking the less likely this will happen with normal usage.
Color Fade / PhotosensitivityKeep in mind that many wood species change in color or tone with exposure to light. This color change is gradual and can occur with any wood product. The photosensitivity chart below ranks floors from “stable” to 10, with “stable” being the least likely to alter in color with exposure to light, while 10 represents a more dramatic change.
Example: A cherry hardwood floor has a photosensitivity rating of 7. If I place a rug on top of my floor, I will see a rug outline if the floor experiences prolonged exposure to sunlight.
Step 2: Choose Your Color and/or Class
traditional oak floors

Step 3: Choose Your Construction
Columbia hardwood floors come in two distinct construction types — solid and engineered. Both types of our hardwood flooring are available in a beautiful selection of wood species and colors. No matter which you choose, you’ll enjoy a premium hardwood floor offering rich graining and genuine beauty.
We do not recommend either type of hardwood flooring be installed in high-moisture areas, including bathrooms. High moisture can cause unfavorable conditions for any hardwood flooring type.
Step 4: Let’s Start Your Columbia Flooring Journey!
Construction: Each plank is milled from a single piece of solid lumber.
Installation: On or above grade; Staple or Nail.
Construction: Each cross-grained layer is fused under heat and pressure for added strength.
Installation: Below, on or above grade; Float, Staple, Nail and/or Glue.
(Uniclic® floors: Float or Glue only.)

Flooring Purchase ChecklistPreparation QuestionsAnswer the following questions before you go into the retail location. This will help in narrowing down your options so you are not overwhelmed with the choices available.
Room LayoutUse graph paper to lay out your room. Each block on your graph paper represents one square foot. If your room is not a simple rectangle, then break the room into sections. Multiply the length of the room by the width of the room (Length x Width = Square Feet) to determine the total square feet needed for your home. Please add 10% for a waste factor.
BudgetConsider the following to make your budget.• Flooring (price will normally be in a square foot method as listed above)• Trim/Transitions • Underlayment • Labor charge (if not installing yourself)• Renting or purchasing of installation tools (if the tools are not available and you are installing yourself, see tool list below)
Questions To The RetailerThese are the questions that you need to ask the retailer once you are in the store and have narrowed down your choices:• What does the manufacturer’s warranty cover and how long does it last? ________________________________________• What can you tell me about the manufacturer and your experience with their products? _____________________________• What is the stain resistant layer on this product and what is the expected lifetime? _________________________________
(Columbia Flooring has SuperiorShield™, see page 1)• What is your return policy? ___________________________________________________________________________• What transitions or trims do I need? _____________________________________________________________________
See page 66 for types of transitions and trims to consider and their definitions.
