TEXTUAL ANALYSIS

(Coke Zero)• Radio Advertisement (60secs)

Target audience: 25-35 year old males (Coca Cola zero drink more masculine; would more likely appeal male listeners - also will be enticed with the mentioning of having a chance at winning prizes associated with sports).

Male voiceover heard throughout radio advert – primarily targeting male listeners.

Radio advert starts with no music bed - just male voiceover and a variety of added ambient sound/foley sound effects heard; e.g. Whistle at football field, the buzzing of a fly, cheering of a group of males – just to maintain the male listeners attention.

(At16-35 and then 43 seconds) Music bed starts to play; rhythmic music as has recognisable beat; starts after voiceover says “or just grab a coke zero” – connotes the rush the drink product will give you (will make you feel energetic, optimistic).

Voiceover only states one form of contact, which is the website (seems as if most existing radio adverts state their website) – if listener wants to find out more about the details of product being promoted.

Always directly addressing the listeners – using engaging words and enthusiastic tone to continually grab listeners’ attention.

Voiceover doesn’t sound sophisticated, but more relaxed and has a casual/laid-back tone.

Enticed listeners with the mention of winning “a VIP behind the scenes experience at the game...”, including other prizes – a lot for audience to get involved in and males would most likely be interested in prizes related to sport (like a bit of competition).

In this particular advert, there seems to be a lot more content said based on the product’s details; membership, location, timings (etc.) – I think this radio advert is a little too long, therefore, more details are said about the product (important to not be too overwhelming).

“Coke Zero, enjoy everything” – states the brand and tagline/slogan; conventions that should be included in a radio advert.
