Knowledge commission set up to study changes

in overall education space in India in early 2000s Former Directors of IIMs (including Prof. KRS

Murthy from IIMB) and industry leaders part of sub committee to study management education

Drastic and relevant recommendations made, for ex allowing private players with profit repatriation subject to a cap, rather than run as “charitable trust”

Section 9.7 IIMs and other leading MEEs to adopt 3-4 MEEs

in their regions For a country of our size and diversity, we

need a large number of excellent institutions. The possibility of leveraging the better-rated

institutions to develop the promising MEEs needs to be explored.

(MEE = management education entity)

Section 9.7.1 The better rated institutes should each adopt 3 or 4

aspirant MEEs in the region to assist them in improving levels of quality and ratings

Such assistance can be in the following processes - Curriculum development and delivery - Case study and teaching note exchange - Student exchange - Sharing of experiences in pedagogy - Placements of students for both summer training and full

time jobs - Faculty development

Section 9.7.2 Concerned MEEs and the better-rated

institutions may arrive at mutually acceptable arrangements for funding such assistance

New IIMs being mentored by established IIMs Case of Krupajal B School in Bhubhaneshwar,

Orissa: mentored by XIMB Both are “individualistic” in nature

An engagement process with aspirant B

Schools in the backdrop of the recommendations made

First hand mentoring from an achiever himself A capable team from eMBArkers out there to

help in implementation of mutually decided action points

A time bound process, which aims at enabling aspirant B Schools to build quality in them

Cohort based rather than an individual engagement

“Acharyaat paadam aadatte, paadam shishyah swamedhayaa Paadam sabrahmacharibyah paadam kaalakramena cha”

An ancient Sanskrit verse on knowledge acquisition

Group wisdom: Collegium of judges/teachers, council of ministers….

Why cohort?

Peer learning and mentoring A healthy peer pressure for effective implementation Availability of a larger “Devil’s Advocate” group

helping to sharpen ideas, visions and action points Cohort forms a support group for one another, when

it comes to operational issues Harvard’s Doctoral program on educational

leadership aims to impact through this cohort system

Very much cost effective and value adding !

Benefits of a cohort
