Size: 4.25” (10.5 cm) wide at cuff by 8.5” (24 cm) long Materials: Yarn: Cascade Yarns, Cascade 220 Solid, 201m/100g, 100% wool, ½ ball, Beige (Color A), Sienna (Color B) and Espresso (Color C)

Needles: Double pointed, one set each of US 4 (3.5mm) and US 6 (4mm)

Tapestry needle Stitch Markers: one regular, one removable Waste yarn for provisional cast-on and to hold stitches for thumbs

Gauge: In chart pattern, worked in the round, 22 sts/ 26 rows = 4” (10 cm) Abbreviations: K - Knit P - Purl sts – stitches K2tog – (right-leaning decrease) Knit 2 stitches together sm - slip marker pm – place marker CO – Cast on Ssk – (left-leaning decrease) slip 2 sts individually knitwise, knit these 2 sts together through back loops. Special Techniques: Provisional Cast-on – Holding both the waste yarn and working yarn together tie a slip knot near the end of the yarn. Slip the slip knot onto your needle. Cast on stitches in same way as you would in the long tail cast-on making sure that the stitches on the needle are created using the working yarn and the braid at the bottom is created using the waste yarn. Be aware that the slip not does not count as a stitch and once your stitches are all cast on you can slip it off the needle. Instructions: With Smaller needles, waste yarn and Color A, CO 48 sts (16 on each needle) using the provisional cast on. Rounds 1-18: Knit. Round 19: Purl. Rounds 20-37 Knit. Bring the cast-on edge inside the tube and fold up so the purl row becomes the fold line. Beginning at the cast-on tail, release the waste yarn several stitches at a time, and place the resulting live stitches onto your US 6 (4mm) needles (16 sts on each needle). Round 38: With larger needles, knit the two sets of stitches together by knitting one outside stitch together with one inside stitch. Place removable stitch marker on strand between needles at beginning of round to identify the beginning of each round. This marker may be moved up as the rows are worked. Rounds 39- 52: Knit Color Chart 1 repeating the 16 stitches of the chart on each needle.

The next round has separate directions for the Left Mitten and the Right Mitten. Round 53: Left Mitten: With Color B, k1, place 12 sts onto waste yarn, CO 6 sts for palm, knit to end (42 sts). Right Mitten: With Color B, k35, place 12 sts onto waste yarn, CO 6 sts for palm, k1 (42 sts). Rounds 54-73: Rearrange sts so there are 14 sts on each needle. Knit Color Chart 2 repeating the 14 stitches of the chart on each needle. Continue with Color C. Rounds 74-78: Knit. The mitten may be lengthened by knitting more rounds in Color C. Decrease for top of the mitten as follows: Round 79: Ssk, k17, k2tog, pm, ssk, k17, k2tog. (4 sts decreased, 38 sts) Round 80: Ssk, k15, k2tog, sm, ssk, k15, k2tog. (34 sts) Round 81: Ssk, k13, k2tog, sm, ssk, k13, k2tog. (30 sts) Continue in same fashion, decreasing 4 sts per round, until 18 sts remain. Place 9 sts on each of two needles. Using Kitchener Stitch, graft the sts together. Thumbs: Place the 12 sts from waste yarn onto two US 6 (4mm) needles (6 sts per needle). With Color B, knit these stitches. Using the 3rd needle, pick up and knit 8 sts from the sts which were cast on for the palm. (20 sts) Join in the round and work Color Thumb Chart Rounds 1-16. (4 sts decreased in last row of chart—16 sts) Continuing with Color B, decrease for top of thumb as follows: Round 17: (Ssk, k4, k2tog) twice. (12 sts) Round 18: (Ssk, k2, k2tog) twice. (8 sts) Place 4 stitches on each of two needles. Using Kitchener stitch graft the ends together.
