  • 9.1 Coding System of WASAC

1 Introduction Encoding is something like naming in the form of a code. It is not necessary, that the code also

replaces the common designations in the parlance. WASAC has chosen to naming and coding as

much as possible to distract from the functional denomination.

The code must be applied to all relevant given as core parts of the plant and then forms the means of

identification of the element and the key to all this available information. Because the encryption

system is derived from the structure of treatment plants, in the most meaningful and simple way as

possible. This document also describes the methodology of defining and clarifying the locations.

Encryption is used on Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), electrical and mechanical

drawings, in controlling processes, and displaying process.

2 Encoding The encoding conforms to the following principles:

    Unique design

Assigning a code expires according to a tight structure

    Process oriented

The code says something about the position within the production process of the indicated

    process part

    Functional decomposition of processes

The encoding follows the Division of the process in functional parts.

Applicable to all current and future processes on (drinking) water locations

The structure is part of the process but gives no restrictions to the process.

3 Functional decomposition In order to be able to describe the functioning of production sites, for example for the design of the

process Automation, a breakdown structure is made of the process in functional parts (functional

decomposition). This breakdown structure continues in P&ID, process descriptions and operating

plans. By defining a functional decomposition can also clear the encoding be set up.

For the method of decomposition is chosen for the standard "Batch control" part 1: Models and

terminology (NEN-EN-IEC 61512-1), also known as "s88". Although this standard out of automating

batch processes but this system of Division is no longer apply to the processes at WASAC.

The breakdown of the process takes place in accordance with this standard in seven layers which a

corresponding WASAC names, as shown in the following table.

The location name provides information on the location of a production or distribution location

within the organization. The location name and code is in whole WASAC unique and is sufficient to

    identify the location.

The process name gives a main classification of the process. The process is divided into process

    groups and process steps

A process step is an important contribution to the production process such as Raw water,

    treatments or distribution.

For a good understanding, a distinction is made in primary and auxiliary (secondary) process steps. By

primary steps runs the water of Raw water towards treatment. Here may be multiple steps in

series. There may also be more steps of the same type are switched one after another, these are

then numbered in the direction of the water flow. Supporting processes work for one or more steps

in the same group. Per group are only the established steps possible. The functional title gives the

function of a part of the process from that operation.

A module is a part of a step as a filter, a pump (Group), and (between) reservoir to decoupling of

process steps. Per step there may be different module be used. For a number of steps are specific

module that can be used only in that step.

As the last decomposition there are components that can be divided into valves, measurements and

equipment. The distinction between the components is focused on the function, this is determined

by the component and not by the location of the component in the process or the medium what the

    component is edited.

The encoding follows the decomposition and is divided as follows:

    Location code:

The location code consists of 6 letters and/or numbers, they are combined from the list with branch

numbers and location names. This combination is unique.

On the same site multiple processes are possible. Also it may be that there are different types are

present in the same location (e.g. a water tower on a water treatment location) the location will then

get the broadest indication (in the example, so water treatment).

The numbering of the DMAs (District Meter Areas) are rising to a maximum of 99.
