ICD-10 implementation is planned for October 1, 2015, making ICD-10 education and training a top priority for home health providers.

Between the additional specificity required for code selection and the fivefold increase in the number of codes, developing efficient processes is imperative to managing the increased workload that will face home health agencies.

Whether you’ve already begun ICD-10 training or are just getting started, the ICD-10 Coding for Home Health Workshop will cover the basics of ICD-10 and provide a detailed overview of the role accurate documentation and the OASIS-C1 plays in ICD-10 coding and payment.

During this two-day educational course, home health coding expert Joan L. Usher, BS, RHIA, COS-C, ACE, will review key changes in the new ICD-10 coding system and discuss the major effects the transition will have on each department within an agency. She will provide home health-specific case studies and coding examples for hands-on learning that empowers participants to successfully navigate and break down the complexity of ICD-10. These activities will focus on coding and communication methods for improved accuracy in documentation.

This workshop offers a unique community atmosphere that is cohesive to discussion and collaboration. Attendees will walk away with best practice strategies for successful ICD-10 coding implementation for their organization.

The ICD-10 Coding for Home Health Workshop teaches participants how to:

• Select accurate ICD-10 codes

• Improve internal workflow options and processes to support the new coding system

• Determine what is still needed from EHR and data mining vendors before “going live”

• Use the interdisciplinary process to ensure solid documentation and accurately capture medical necessity

• Explain the impact of ICD-10 coding on Medicare payments

• Implement training timelines & appropriate methods of education for staff

• Describe documentation needed for specific diagnostic categories

• Recognize ICD-10 coding structures and conventions

• Identify diagnostic categories and which diagnosis/codes are included within a category

• Indicate valuable information to collect during the intake process

• Identify which comorbidities impact the plan of care

• Discuss the referral diagnosis, resolved conditions, and home health diagnosis

• Assess agency readiness and address vendor and budgetconcerns
