Project at ofi – Xenohormones in FCM
Xenohormones - not in nature occurring hormonally active substances such as phthalates, bisphenol A and phenolic antioxidants
Xeno-Project: The aim is to perform comprehensive material comparisons of food contact materials (FCM) to detect estrogen-active substances with highly sensitive trace analysis

Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
for FCS (food contact substances) 1. Chemical Asessment
Migration: single-use-applications vs. repeat-use-applicationsand
Packaging info: consumption factors (CF) and food-type distribution factors (fT)
2. Toxicological Assesment
3. Environmental Asessment
21 CFR 25.40 or exclusion of environmental assessment (EA)
DC = CF(M) = CF Ʃ (MFSL)(fT)
DC: dietary concentration
M: Meanvalue related to fT –value
MFSL: Migrationlimit
EDI = DC x 3 kg food per person per day
EDI: estimated daily intake; (1.5 kg liquid und 1.5 kg solid food)

Australia / New Zealand – Handling with BPA
Different studies have raised potential concerns that BPA exposure may cause multiple health problems. However the overwhelming weight of scientific opinion is that there is no health or safety issue at the levels people are exposed to.
The Australian Government has introduced a voluntary phase out of BPA use in polycarbonate baby bottles.

WPO – implementation of a working group?
Based on new highly sensitive analysis methods and research findings, the legislatur has a certain dynamic.
The example Bisphenol A shows the fast-changing and often contradictory legislation of various countries
Building a WPO working group for rapide communication and reaction on legislation changings
