RESEARCH OBJECTIVE

To investigate how the addressee and function affects the code of choice of the participants in various occasions.

General : Code switching is defined as the practice of selecting

or altering l inguistic elements so as to contextualize talk in interaction.

Addressee: 1. An affective dimension to it: the choice of code carries

symbolic meaning, that is, the language fits the message. (1)

2. The idea that l inguistic form is affected by setting and participants as well as topic was influenced in part by Ervin -Tripp (1964). (2)

3. He argues that the relationship between the language and the social context is quite complex and that “participant immersed in the interaction itself are often quite unaware which code is used at any one time.

the movie.

• ( ENGLISH ) - normal conversations

• ( TURKISH ) - appreciation.

Based on the findings, the research questions

proposed has been answered.

The factors relating code switching and code

mixing depend on many circumstances. Among

those important factors are addressee and

function.

In conclusion, ADDRESSEE and FUNCTION play

information factors in code switching between

Malaysian Society in Turkey and Turkish society.
