• Born in Saumer, France on August 19th, 1883
• Real name is Gabrielle Bonhuer Chanel
• She is French• Died when 88 on January
10th, 1971

Personal Background
• Coco and her family were very poor and in poverty when growing up
• When 12 mother died • Soon after her father ran away and left her, so
she was put in orphanage• Nuns raised her and also taught her how to
sew
Key Historical Events
• World War 1 was going on • Since war was going on the Nazis shut down many
industries like the fashion industry for quite some time
• Also during this time Coco met a man named Etienne Balson, who open her first millinery business.
• Really got her career going and soon after opened a hat store and then sold clothes couple years later
Influence of the Art World
• Inspired by the nuns that took care of her and how they helped her with learning to sew
• Chanel’s influence on the art world is big and she continue this day to inspire and all of her techniques still are used in clothes today including her line, but just a little more modern style then her traditional classy style.

Conclusion
• Overall Chanel was a very talented, unique, traditional artist and had lots of traits that showed in her clothes. Her clothes even today continue to show her own personal style and she is someone that inspires and will inspire many more years to come.
