Coca-Cola London Eye
The Coca-Cola London Eye is centrally located in the heart of the capital,
gracefully rotating over the River Thames opposite the Houses of Parliament
and Big Ben. At 135 metres, the Coca-Cola London Eye is the world's tallest
cantilevered observation wheel; a feat of design and engineering, it has
become the modern symbol representing the capital and a global icon. The
experience showcases breathtaking 360-degree views of the capital and its
famous landmarks and has been the number one visitor experience in the city
for the past decade.
You task while having fun!
Design your capsule
Task 1: Following your trip to The London Eye, you will be asked to complete your
questionnaires with members of the public. You should complete
questionnaires with their respondents away from the exit of The London Eye
(for safety reasons). The area around the tension base of The London Eye is
the preferred location for this exercise. Work in small groups and attempt to
match the 6Rs to their correct definition using Worksheet 1. You are
encouraged to consider why you think this is relevant in the 21st century.
Learning Objectives:
Be able to analyse information gained from research
Understand the 6Rs (Re-think, Re-use, Recycle, Repair, Reduce,
Refuse) and be able to apply them to real life products
Task 2: Working in your appointed groups you should work together to design your London eye capsule based on the brief and information you gathered from task 1. You should convert your 2D sketches to isometric drawings if you have time.
Learning Objectives:
Develop teamwork and communication skills through collaborative work
Develop design skills and use these to present your work in a well
communicated manner
Be able to reflect on research to create a suitable design

Task 3:
Client presentation.
You will have five minute slot to deliver your presentations to the rest of the
class (CLIENT). At the end of the presentation you are listening to, as client
you have to give feedback. Presentations should be marked using the
Worksheet 2: Scoring sheet and scored according to whether the team
successfully met and answered the brief.
Task 4:
Self evaluation
Following feedback from your classmates, you will be encouraged to compare
your final designs to your design brief and specifications – thinking about the
project outcomes, strengths and weaknesses. You should then suggest areas
for improvement and accordingly fill up Worksheet 3: Self evaluation. We will
discuss all the tasks in class once all complete.
Learning Objectives:
Understand the importance of evaluating and how obtaining other
peoples’ opinions can improve design work
Develop teamwork and use these skills to organise a presentation
Improve communication skills by delivering a presentation to an
audience
