AntennaDevelopment

Projects

Development projects are undertaken onbehalf of customers for specificprogrammes. Advanced modeling tools areused to enhance accuracy, with prototypestested at the company's on-site anechoictest chamber. Radiation pattern dataensures that antennas meet their quotedspecification and radiation patternenvelopes. Antennas are testedthroughout design and manufacture.

to 25GHz, with over 1500 existing designsavailable. Antenna types include ultrawideband, planar spiral, directional, sectorand multi sector, blade-style omni orsector antennas, collinear omni-directionalantennas, multi-octave bicones, hemiomnis and multi-stacked omnis.

Directional flat panels with fixed phased-array and wide band patch technologyprovide a slim, low profile antenna with a

discreet appearance. These antennas arerugged and sealed to withstand harshweather conditions. Gains range from 7dBito 32dBi. Sector beamwidth ranges from 5°to 120°. Polarisation may be circular, linearor dual. Omni antenna with up to 10dBigain and stable azimuth patterns are usedas central stations. Multi Sector antennascan be deployed for higher gain and longerrange.

Ultra WidebandAntennas for Defenceand Countermeasures

Robust ultra wideband omni anddirectional antennas are being used forground-based and airborne systems forCounter IED and communicationsintercept. They are also used for multi-band cellular applications such ascommunication in tunnels and DistributedAntenna Systems (DAS), EW target dronesand spectrum monitoring.

Omni Antennas for S-band, UAV, Link16,or Vehicle Mounted

Collinear omni antennas have up to 10%bandwidth and provide up to 11dBi gain,whilst multi-octave bicones provide 2dBigain.

Circular polarisation, excellent azimuthripple and customised elevation beampatterns, all combined to provide anaccurate, reliable antenna for the mostdemanding of communication systems.

The Black Shadow VIP Protection Jammingsystem can be fitted to most vehicles fora mobile convoy protection or placed inan area of Threat or in a building.

Each Jamming Module within BlackShadow radiates multiple programmablejamming carriers that can instantaneouslyjam selected frequency bands.

Portable Briefcase orBackpack Jammers

These specialist jammers incorporate thelatest jamming technology in a compactintegrated system is able to be equippedwith a wide range of frequency jammingmodules. In a compact system theycontain Jammer modules, antennas,battery, power supply and optional remotecontrol.

Both these are ideally deployed to protectVIP’s, Military/Security staff or EOD teamsfrom RCIEDs.

There are currently over 300 Black ShadowJammers sold into Military, NATO and CivilDefence organisation over the world.

GSM Detect, Blockand Counter

MeasuresIn today’s society having tools to detector,jam and monitor mobile phonecommunications are essential in theprevention of terrorism. Digital RF havedeveloped a range of products to equipsecurity personnel with the latesttechnology in Mobile phone countermeasures.

Cell-BlockPreventing the use of mobile phones andcommunications devices in Prisons andSecure Facilities is an important part ofsecurity and crime prevention.

Digital RFs jamming technology has beendeployed to detect, jam and monitormobile phone activity in these institutionsunder the name Cell-block.

Utilising the Blackshadow technology acomprehensive system of jamming,frequency monitoring, ethernet control,detector activity logging and GSM networkstatus is provided to the user.

Network GuardDigital RF’s Cell-Monitor provides rapidnotification of any rogue BTS attemptingto covertly listen to mobile phones. Cell-Monitor is the essential tool toindependently monitor the BTS activityaround sensitive buildings / offices. Bycontinuously scanning all availablenetworks rogue BTS activity can be seeninstantly and the position of the rogue BTSsource located on a map.

Cell-InterceptionTaking both RF and Digital technology tothe next level Digital RF have developed anIMSI / IMEI grabber to locate and identifytarget phones and enable access.

Cell-Seeker Network Mapping SystemCell-seeker is the essential tool toindependently monitor or map multiplemobile networks.

By continuously scanning all availablenetworks and recording the GPS positionan RF ‘finger print’ of the environment isrecorded.

ChameleonChameleon is a digital phone system whichallows designated users to use their ownmobile phone to call each other and make& receive external calls while preventing allother people in the coverage area of thejammer.

GSM TrackingDevices

PV900 TrackerThe Digital RF has developed a range ofsmall battery powered modules whichuses the latest GSM technology to providea location typically to an accuracy ofwithin 100m.

Smaller than a mobile phone the PV900can be placed discreetly in a vehicle, in abag or on a person. PV900 will report itsposition either on a timed basis, or whenrequested from the control centre.

The precise location is then calculatedfrom the cell information reported by the

PV900 module. Using highly integratedefficient controllers PV900 can report forup to 300 days on one charge of thebattery.

MDS – Magnetic Detection SystemMDS is a comprehensive automaticdetection system for entrance securitycontrol.

Comprising of a speed ramp and barrierfitted at the entrance of a building or carpark it will detect any magnetic material,such as a magnetic bomb / RCIED orTracking device attached to the vehiclechassis.

While the vehicle travels over the systemthe vehicle is automatically scanned andthe barrier entrance synchronized to allowor deny entry.

SUPERAV – A NewGeneration of

AmphibiousArmoured Vehicles

Iveco has developed the 25-tonnesSUPERAV 8x8 Medium Armoured Vehiclesfamily specifically to undertakeamphibious operations. All variants share

Carrier (APC) and Armoured InfantryFighting Vehicle (AIFV) feature a hullspecifically designed to maximise crewsurvivability. With an inner volume ofabout 11m3, the AIFV is equipped with a25/30mm two-man turret and canaccommodate a driver and 8 fullyequipped dismounts, while the APC offers14 m3 and can carry up to 12 dismounts.

The Centauro family is offered throughCIO Iveco – Oto Melara, a joint venturewith Oto Melara of Italy who areresponsible for providing the turretsystems.

Multirole andMission-Adaptable

VehiclesIveco has focused on the development of multirole platforms which are capableof fulfilling a range of applications.Characterised by their exceptionalmobility, agility and terrain accessibility,and their high levels of protection againstboth ballistic and mine attack, this range ofvehicles is based on two platforms – theLight Mulitrole Vehicle (LMV) and theMedium Protected Vehicle (MPV). With awide variety of configurations alreadydeveloped, they are equally effective onpeacekeeping, counter insurgency and warfighting missions.

Light MultiroleMilitary Vehicle

The LMV is a purpose built military vehiclewhich nonetheless benefits from the useof many commercial components. Ruggedand highly mobile, it is based on a modulardesign which enables the development ofa wide range of variants with differingwheelbases, roofs, crew cell configurationsand protection levels. This modularityaccommodates many configurations, mostrecently, a special forces variant. The LMV

is rapidly becoming the light protectedvehicle of choice in Europe, with sales tonine armies to date.

Medium ProtectedVehicle (MPV)

The multirole approach is also seen in theMPV which Iveco has developed inpartnership with KMW. To meet thedemand for heavily protected utility andmultipurpose vehicles able to provide highlevels of ballistic, mine and IED protection,the new 4 x 4 MPV family occupies themission space between the LMV and theCentauro 8 × 8 AFV family.

In order to produce a reliable, rugged, wellprotected vehicle with a class leadingpayload, Iveco took the decision to exploitits highly successful Trakker chassis.Innovative well informed engineeringcoupled with a class leading commercialchassis has delivered a well protected,adaptable vehicle with high mobility at acost far below that of bespoke militaryvehicles.

A Logistic Capabilityfor both Protected

and UnprotectedApplications

One of the characteristics of currentoperations is that there is no front line. Inrecognition of this, Iveco Defence Vehicleshas developed a class leading protectedcab which can be fitted to Iveco’s heavyduty 6×6 and 8×8 Trakker chassis. Theresult is a robust, highly mobile but costeffective logistic vehicle which canoperate even in high threat areas.

The modular design of the Trakker range

provides a choice of a wide range ofwheelbases and drive trains, all of whichare supportable through the Iveco dealernetwork. This enables Iveco to provide ahighly versatile, exceptionally wellprotected logistic fleet to meet a widerange of demanding roles.

RequirementsIVECO Defence Vehicles also offers a fullrange of battle proven, powerful andcapable 4×4, 6×6 and 8×8 purposedesigned military logistic vehicles toprovide tactical support to any militaryoperation in the most hostileenvironmental conditions. The vehiclescan be fitted with a cab which allows themto be airportable in a C130.

The whole range can be equipped with anew generation of add on armour kit,achieving a unique combination ofperformance, payload and protection tosupport any military operation in the mosthostile environmental conditions.

Theground sensor's Digital Data Port interfaceswith the customer specific hardware andBMS, supporting a variety of digitalstandards including the DAMA protocol. Italso enables the user to make use of aDigital Data Port Adapter (DDPA) such as adigital antenna. The dedicated SensorManagement System (SMS) allows the fullutilisation of a multi AMMS network.

The core capability is the Acousticlocalisation of various sound sources suchas Rocket, Artillery and Mortars (RAM) andSmall Arms Fire (SAF) positions.

AMMSThe ground based Acoustic Multi MissionSensor (AMMS) utilizes theworldwideunique Acoustic Vector Sensortechnology allowing it to detect, classifyand localise the full spectrum of acousticbattlefield signatures such as mortars,

RAM-LOC - RAMLocalisation System

RAM-LOC is designed to be used as partof a C-RAM (Counter Rocket, Artillery andMortar) system, locating enemy firingpositions over a wide area.

Each RAM-LOC system typically comprisesmultiple remote operated ground sensors,a wireless communication system, and acommand centre processor.

The sensors are mobile, fast deployable,and modular, and therefore can beconfigured to work in all areas andenvironments. Typical use would be forthe protection of fixed perimeters such asborder lines and forward operating bases(FOBs), or for temporary locations such asrest over nights (RONs).

RAM-LOC is also suitable for supportingweapon locating radar (WLR), reconfirmingtargets (as per rules of engagement) andreducing false alarms which can bring baseoperations to a halt for unnecessaryperiods of time.

As RAM-LOC works best at close rangeand radar is more suited for long rangedetection, the systems complement eachother well. It also acts as an unjammableclose range backup during radar affectingweather, for where line of sight is obscuredby terrain dips or hills, and for lowtrajectory weapons where projectiles stayclose to the ground and out of sight ofradar. Crucially, RAM-LOC is a passive

permanent and temporary use. Thesupplied battery allows one ground sensorpost to operate for one month. Dependingon the need smaller and lighter batteriescan be offered. Alternative poweringsolutions such as solar panels are alsoavailable.

system, so it cannot be located andjammed like radar.

Detection of an event by one of theground sensors results in information beingsent to the command centre, typicallytime stamp, classification of sound, andbearing and elevation to the source. Thebulk of the processing is done at eachground sensor individually, so there areonly very small packets of text data totransmit to the command centre. This data,from multiple sensors, is then collated andprocessed centrally, and the calculatedlocations are presented both in tabularform as well as in a graphical format, e.g.on a map or satellite image of the area. Thepoints of impacts (POI) and points of origin(POO) are presented as grid coordinates.All information can be exported or printedout in hard copy for further reporting andde-briefing. With the command centresoftware, the ground sensors can beremotely accessed, allowing for easy andconvenient configuration.

RAM-SCORE -Training Range

SystemRAM-SCORE is a passive acousticlocalisation system for rocket, artillery andmortar (RAM) training and proving ranges,providing fast and accurate locationreports of points of impact (POI) andpoints of origin (POO) on the range. Thesystem has been developed in cooperationwith the Royal Netherlands Army tosupport shooting exercises and to ensuresafety on training ranges.

Each RAM-SCORE system comprises of atleast four remotely operated groundsensor posts (no upper limit) and a mainstation command post. Each groundsensor contains an Acoustic Vector Sensor(AVS) which has the worldwide uniquecapability to directly measure the actualdirection of sound sources acoustically.

Furthermore, the unique Acoustic VectorSensor technology allows the system to besmaller and lighter with a reduced powerconsumption compared to sound pressuremicrophone based solutions. Based on itscompact size, the RAM-SCORE system isfast and easily deployable for both

day. Riley tells us, ‘There was never anoccasion where a vehicle powered by aCummins Engine had a problem. Several ofthe vehicles we used that didn’t have a

Platoon Leaderexperiences the Reliability and Power of Cummins 1LT Riley Emter was a Tank and Cavalry ScoutPlatoon Leader in Iraq and he is currently aReconnaissance Platoon Leader in 3dSquadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment out of FortHood, Texas, USA. Whist Riley was deployedto the southern province of Najaf, Iraq in2010–2011 and he used many vehiclesequipped with Cummins Engines and his basewas powered by Cummins Generators.

Engines1LT Riley recently contacted Cummins toshare his experience stating ‘The reliability ofthese engines and performance was amazing.They were enjoyed by the men of MaddogCompany 3/3 ACR. My Commander, CPTDavid Griffith, and myself each bought aDodge 2500 with a Cummins Engine uponredeployment back from Iraq. Thank you forproviding such reliable engines and makinghigh quality, long lasting products.’

Cummins Generators ran electricity for all300 people on Riley’s base; they have to beconsistently reliable to provide electricityand most importantly air conditioning for all300 soldiers’ rooms in the heat of Iraq.Between the high temperatures and dustthere are no better generators to deal withthe elements of Iraq. In addition to theCummins Generators a couple of Riley’svehicles were powered by a Cummins Engine.The M3A3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle and theRG-33 BAE Caiman Tactical Vehicle both haveCummins Engines in them. The reliability ofthese engines allows users to be able toaccomplish missions and ensures the abilityto return all the Soldiers back to base every
