Congratulaons must go to all involved with the Cobdogla Tennis Club on their success in both the junior and senior finals over the weekend. Dear Parents and Caregivers,

PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS Parent Teacher interviews have started this week and it has been pleasing to note the interaction between parents, students and teachers during the interviews with the students being enthusiastic when talking about their learning. Please remember to notify the school if you need to change your interview time or you are delayed for any reason.

GOVERNING COUNCIL Thank you to Brad Wegener for offering to fill the vacancy on the Governing Council for the remainder of the year.

VISIBLE LEARNING Over the next couple of weeks we will be gathering baseline data from our students and teachers in relation to the question “What makes a good learner?” This will include the use of surveys and the interviewing of a random selection of students to gather their thoughts and perceptions in regard to this. The aim of Visible Learning is to provide teachers and students with a greater insight into their own learning and teaching. The evidence collected from the data will be used to inform the direction of learning within the school as part of the visible learning journey.

HALOGEN YOUNG LEADERS’ DAY Six students from our Year 6 and 7 group recently attended the Halogen Young Leaders’ Day at the Adelaide Convention Centre. They were able to listen to a range of messages from a variety of guest speakers and from their accounts, they certainly enjoyed the day. As usual, their behaviour was in keeping with the expectations of SRC members and School Leaders. Thank you to Rod Hanna for driving the students to Adelaide on the day.

Congratulations must go to all involved with the Cobdogla Tennis Club on their success in both the junior and senior finals over the weekend. The number of students involved in Saturday morning tennis is certainly a credit to the club, and in particular to Shane Nettle, who puts in an enormous amount of time to ensure that the students are coached and learning the basics of the game. In an era where the number of students undertaking physical activity is diminishing, it is pleasing to note that the club is providing the opportunity for students to be active participants.

Social and Emotional learning for Students How parents and carers can help: Parents and carers can work with school staff to help create a bridge between home and school. When the adults responsible for children take a positive interest in what happens at school it helps children feel at home. It also makes it easier to pick up any problems early when they are easiest to resolve. Find out about the school and what your child is learning, participate in information sessions. Make time to listen to your child tell you about

what he or she is doing at school. Let your child’s teacher know if he/she is having

difficulties and discuss what kinds of things you can do at home and school to help.

HEADLICE NOTIFICATION It has come to our attention that there has been an

outbreak of headlice in the school. In the interest of all, it

would be greatly appreciated if you could check your

child/ren and if head lice or eggs are detected please treat

accordingly. Students must be excluded from school until

treatment has been given.

It is extremely difficult to kill all the lice eggs present on

an infected head so treatment must be repeated after 7-10

days. Removal of all eggs is advised to prevent

reinfestation. Sometimes it is hard to determine if nits are

dead or already hatched so best to remove all.

We realise that this is a sensitive issue but would

appreciate if you inform the school if you do detect any

headlice, thank you.

Young Leader’s Day!

On Monday March 20th 6 very lucky SRC students went to

Adelaide for a Young Leaders Day Conference. The students

hopped on the Barmera Footy Club bus at around 6 in the

morning and set off. It took them about 2 hours and they

arrived at the Convention Centre a little bit late. The lovely

guest speakers included Sam Skinner, Tom and Jakob from

Kick In My Boots, Matt Cosgrove, Kelly Vincent and Brent

Riley. They gave many inspirational messages and quotes

and talked about their own leadership journeys and how

they got to where they are today. Students were able to

buy things like pins, pens, showbags, wristbands and more.

Mr Hanna bought each student a wristband with the quote

of “IMAGINATION” on it. On the way home the students

and Mr Hanna stopped at Krispy Kreme to get some

donuts. Overall it was a great day.

On March 21st our school

celebrated Harmony Day.

Students were encouraged to

wear orange to raise awareness

for harmony in Australia. Lots

of people wore orange and it

was a great day!

Year 7 Leadership Camp On Thursday 16th and Friday 17th March the year 7

students went to the Barmera North Lake Caravan

Park for the Year 7 Leadership Camp. They were

joined by Monash, Barmera and Kingston on Murray

schools. Some year 8 students from Glossop High

School visited and talked about high school and what it

was about. Here is what some people thought of it… Jade – it was really fun and I really enjoyed it!

Riley – it was really inspiring!

Meg – it was interesting!

Dylan – it was AMAZING!

Overall it was a really great camp.

On Friday 17th March our school

celebrated St Patrick’s Day. Students

wore green to school and the SRC

organised activities in the Resource

Centre such as finding the hidden

leprechauns, Irish Dancing, colouring

in, and bingo.
