Principal’s Report
It has been another extremely busy week at Cobar Public
School. Congratulations to everyone who entered exhibits in
the show. Our display looked excellent.
Congratulations to Miss Nicola Mathews who has been
appointed Relieving Principal at Wanaaring Central School
for the remainder of this term. Mr Harvey will be making
occasional visits to support and we wish her all the best with
this exciting adventure. Mr Kim Lang will be taking Miss
Mathews’ place on KM and we have once again begun the
process of replacing him in Stage Two. Thanks for your
ongoing understanding and patience with this process.
On Tuesday our Year 6 students participated in the Outback
Science and Engineering Challenge. We have had many
positive reports about their excellent behaviour and manners
whilst representing our school. They placed fourth overall –
an excellent achievement, especially considering this is a high
school challenge!
Yesterday we had three netball teams and two rugby league
teams participating in the Peachey Richardson Shield. Our
netball teams all competed very well with our Team A taking
out the competition and going on to Orange – great work
girls! Our rugby league teams showed excellent form but were
just pipped at the post to get into the finals. Well done on your
excellent sportsmanship and teamwork everyone. Once again,
our students were well-mannered and displayed excellent
behaviour.
I hope everyone is thinking about their costume for National
Simultaneous Storytime – it is sneaking up fast!

this week? Addison Cull
Congratulations to Addison who was
spotted by Ernie moving around the
school sensibly and responsibly. No
wonder Addison has already been a
‘Gold Team’ Walker. Addison always
remembers to put her hat on before
she goes out to play, and is a very
good role model for others. Well done
Addison! Ernie loves your work!
Mason King
Ernie was super excited to see Mason
from 1/2KP this week. Mason is
always prepared for learning. He
always comes up with some great
ideas when 1/2KP are having class
discussions. Well done Mason , keep
up the good work!

Netball NSW Gala Day On Wednesday three teams represented Cobar Public School at the Netball NSW
Gala Day. The group consisted of one Yr 3/4 team and two Yr 5/6 teams. All teams
played at least six games throughout the day playing teams from St John’s- Cobar,
and schools from Nyngan and Bourke. Each student displayed outstanding sports-
manship and skills and represented Cobar Public School with great pride. A very big
congratulations to each student for their fantastic participation in this annual
event.
At the end of the day it was announced that Cobar Public School Team A have
progressed to the next round which will be played in Orange on the 7Th August.
A special thank you to Mrs Emma Barton who volunteered to assist by coaching the
Yr 3/4 team for the day, and to Madasan Taylor, Lauren Urquhart, Abby Carswell
and Zoe Carter from Cobar High School who volunteered as umpires for the teams.
Yesterday 27 students from Years 3-6 went to Tom Knight Oval to participate in the David
Peachey and Russell Richardson Shield Gala Day. Cobar entered 2 teams in the Peachey
Competition (5/6) and one team in the Richardson Shield (3/4). Our 3/4 team improved
throughout the day and ended up in 4th with one win. Our Number 2 team in the 5/6
competition improved immensely throughout the day and had couple of close games
against tough opposition while our Number 1 side ended up with 2 wins and missed out on
the final by one try. It was great to see a lot of students playing for the first time and the
support they received from their fellow team mates.
I would like to thank Mrs Manns for her support throughout the day, Harley Toomey for
driving the bus to and from Tom Knight and Paul McCosker and John Barton for coaching
two of our teams.

On Tuesday 8th May 27 year students participated in the Science
and Engineering Challenge at the Youthie. We were one of 8
schools. Cobar Public students managed to stay in 4th position all
the way through the challenge which was impressive considering
they were competing against high school students in years 9 and 10.
The students were involved in many different activities working in
small groups of 3-4. The students are to be congratulated on their
outstanding behaviour during the day.
