There are more than 50,000 miles of roads weaving throughout Idaho'spicturesque landscape, just waiting to be discovered. It truly is amotorcyclist's paradise. This book will introduce you to a few rides thatwill showcase the diversity of the state and its terrain.
The fun and beauty that these roads provide truly prove how valuabletraining courses are in helping all motorcyclists fully enjoy the thrilland excitement that comes with being one with their bike. As the sayinggoes, the more you know, the better it gets!
A very special thanks to Tricia Eberharter for all her hard work anddedication in volunteering to design this book and put it together foryour riding pleasure.

Boise Rides!Boise Rides! was inspired by Ron Shepard, Director of the IdahoSTAR Program, who thought a small guide highlighting some of thegreat local rides from Boise would make your riding journeys here anenjoyable adventure.
The rides highlighted here will give you the opportunity to ventureout onto the roads of Idaho, Oregon, and Montana and see why weall love living here! Some of the rides compiled here take only anhour and some of them could go on forever.
Boise Rides! will introduce to you this great state of Idaho and thewonderful people who live here. And when you return home and hearabout those Idaho Spuds, we hope you will have fond memories tothink back upon.
Enjoy your stay and please ride safe!
Many riders contributed to this work and we would like to thank themhere. You know who you are and we thank you for sharing yourriding journeys with us. We would also like to thank Jeff Naylor andGrand Targhee Resort for the cover photograph.

The Craters of the Moon ride is a destination journey, so weincorporated the Sun Valley Loop into the map section.
Craters of the Moon is located southwest of Arco, Idaho, in the PicaboVolcanic Field occupying 715,000 acres of federal land. The Craterswere declared a national monument by President Coolidge in 1924.Since then the monument has been expanded through five presidentialproclamations. The most recent and largest expansion occurred whenPresident Clinton signed a proclamation enlarging it 13 fold.
“The strangest 75 square miles on the North American continent.” “Anoutdoor museum of volcanism.” “A weird lunar landscape.” These arejust a few of the things said about the Craters of the Moon.
The central focus is the Great Rift, a 62-mile long crack in the earth'scrust. The Great Rift has some wonderful features; craters, lava tubes, deep cracks, and vast lava fields that form a strangely beautifulvolcanic sea on central Idaho's Snake River Plain. The first volcaniceruptions occurred at Craters of the Moon about 15,000 years ago.The most recent ended about 2,100 years ago. A Shoshone Indianlegend speaks of a serpent on a mountain who, angered by lightening, coiled around and squeezed the mountain until liquid rock flowed, fireshot from cracks and the mountain exploded.

Thousand SpringsThousand Springs is an abundance of natural springs. The SnakeRiver Plains Aquifer is the source for the water and is one of thelargest ground water systems in the world. Also worth seeing isShoshone Falls, at 212 feet, the falls are 52 feet higher than NiagaraFalls.
200 Miles Round Trip - A ride that can't be beat with sights to seeand a great dinner stop.
Use Old Highway 30 rather than the freeway, and you will see how weonce traveled on narrow, windy two-lane roads which have little or notraffic on them. Hmmm, sounds a little bit like motorcycle heaven to me.
Take I-84 as far as Mountain Home, take the first exit and follow signsfor Hammett. A couple miles past Hammett you need to take a right toavoid getting back on I-84, (you're heading for Glenns Ferry now) afterGlenns Ferry cross over the Interstate & head to King Hill, then aroundthe great right sweeper and before you get back to I-84 you must takean unmarked left to see the most unspoiled part of the old Hwy 30.
This winds through ranch land and crosses I-84 again at Bliss whereyou'll turn right toward Hagerman. At the end of the town (Hagerman)on your right is a wild game restaurant called Snake River Grill. Afterdinner, head on down the road to view Thousand Springs in the bluffsoverlooking the Snake River.
