Greek Mythology- Greeks believed in many gods and
goddesses
- They believed these deities affected lives and events
- Best buildings devoted to the gods
During- Greeks believed the 12 most important
gods lived on Mt. Olympus, the highest in Greece
- Many Greek myths. The gods would hold special powers but look and act like humans
- They were married, had children, argued with each other, fought wars
During- Zeus – chief god- Athena – goddess of wisdom and crafts- Apollo – god of the sun and poetry- Ares – the god of war- Aphrodite – the goddess of love- Poseidon – god of the seas and
earthquakes
During- Greeks followed rituals to earn the gods
favor. They hoped the gods would grant them favor in return.- Pray, give gifts, festivals
- Greeks believed in prophecy, or predictions about the future. They visited an oracle to receive a prophecy.
- The most famous oracle was the Temple of Apollo at Delphi.
