Ideal source of personnel to fill temporary staff leaves or to help with •short-term projects.Opportunity to train future employees from the ground up.•Allows the vetting of students for future hiring of motivated and skilled •employees.Co-op provides your company with a year-round supply of motivated •young individuals eager to bring forth new ideas.Possibility of tax credits (up to $3,000 per Co-op work term for Ontario-•based companies).Helps create a bridge between the employer and Laurentian University, •a dynamic Northern Ontario post-secondary institution with one of the highest post-graduation employment rates in Ontario.

Benefits to the Employers

Each lab section in Chemistry or Biochemistry at the 2• nd year level is 3h per week / 10 weeks per term.Chemistry and Biochemistry students receive extensive hands-on training •as part of their courses (see table on page 6). Each lab section in 3• rd year has on average 6 students/instructor, resulting in an enhanced practical training experience. Third year Chemistry/Biochemistry students have practical experience with •a variety of modern lab equipment (ICP-MS, HPLC, NMR, and other).Formal lab reports are the norm starting in 2• nd year.

Schedule and Duration of Co-op Placements

In general, there are two times at which students can take a Co-op placement (see Table below):

a four-month placement during the summer after second year; and1. a twelve- to sixteen-month placement after third year.2.

Note 1: A 2nd year placement is not a requirement for eligibility to enroll in a 3rd year placement.
