Aim. The aim of the competition is to identify the best boulderer from across the region for the prescribed categories. The competition also serves to further promote the discipline of climbing and enhance the attendance and performance during the UK Armed forces bouldering League 16/17. Format of the Competition 2. The competition will be split into 2 parts: The qualifying round will consist of 20 boulder problems that must be attempted within the 2.5 hour qualifying period. Each competitor will score their attempts on scorecards provided on the day and a fellow competitor must verify their result. 3. Following the qualifying round the top 6 competitors in each category will compete in an International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) style final. This will see each competitor given 4 minutes to complete the final boulder problem, with the winner being the person who completed the boulder problem in the lowest number of attempts within the time period. Should no competitor finish the final boulder problem, then the competitor reaching the highest hold, as detailed within the sequence, will be deemed the winner. 4. Trophies and Prizes. Trophies and prizes will be presented at the end of the competition during the prize giving ceremony. Competitors are encouraged to remain for the prize giving. Birmingham Bouldering Centre Arch 30/31, Water Street, Birmingham, B3 1HL

7. Cost and Registration. Personnel attending the competition will be required to register with the venue, prior to the competition’s qualifying round at 12:30; registration will cost £10 per person payable in Cash. All competitors are required to complete the membership form for Birmingham Bouldering Centre; this verifies that all competitors acknowledge the health and safety requirements of the Climbing Centre. To speed up the process a registration form is attached to this AI, however forms are also available from the venue on the day.

8. Timings. Timings for the competition to be held, 25 Jan 17, at Birmingham Bouldering Centre, are as follows:

a. 1100 – 1130: Registration.

b. 1230 – 1500: Qualifying Round of 20 Boulder problems.

c. 1530: Men’s, Women’s Final (up to 6 Competitors).

d. 1630 Prizes and Awards.

9. Security. Birmingham Bouldering Centre is a public facility and will be open to the public during the latter stages of the competition. It is imperative that all competitors and spectators are security conscious. The following restrictions have been imposed:

a. No uniform is to be worn.

b. No ‘green’ military transport is to be used; white fleet vehicles are permitted.

c. A MOD identity card will be required for registration. Spectators must be vouched for by military personnel.

10. Travel. Travel at public expense to this event has been authorised but is subject to further approval by the unit budgetary holder. All personnel are to ensure that travel costs are kept to a minimum, with individuals from the same unit/location sharing a car whenever possible. Check with your budget office/MT before travelling.

11. Parking. Parking is available nearby at Lower Lionel street car park £3.90 for 4 hours.

12. Equipment. Each competitor is to provide their own climbing shoes and chalk bag for the event. Shoes are available to hire from the centre at an additional cost of £3 per pair.

13. Summary. This climbing event is designed to be accessible to all personnel whether a seasoned boulderer or new to both climbing and bouldering. It requires physical fitness, gymnastic ability and provides a fun alternative to traditional mountaineering whilst also providing a great social experience.
