Runner-Up
Wow, What a Spelling Bee!
These spellers were on fire during our final phase of the
CNMS 2018-19 Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Dec. 12 in the
library! After many rounds, Pranav Chandar, a 6th-grader in
Mrs. Schaperjohn’s homeroom and Sanjana Veerara-
ghavan, a 6th-grader from Mrs. Dillman’s homeroom battled
it out for numerous rounds. Finally, Pranav took the win by
correctly spelling both “guaranteed” and “ivory.” Pravan will
move on to the semi-final round where he will take part in a
50-word online vocabulary round at the end of January,
2019 to see if he will advance to the regional bee. Congratu-
lations, Pravan, and good luck going forward!
We would also like to thank Mrs. Steele, Mrs. Gresham, and
Mrs. Short for their help in Wednesday’s event!

Come to the January 9, 2019 CNMS generationOn Club meeting in room 403 and learn about illustrating books from

We will begin selling our books in March. All proceeds go to the Dolly Parton Imagination Library in Warrick County.

Indiana’s 21st Century Scholars Program
Attention 7th and 8th Grade Parents:
Your child may be eligible for a college scholarship! Indiana's 21st
Century Scholars Program offers income-eligible Hoosier students up to
four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after
they graduate from high school. Please take the time to read the at-
tached information titled "21st Century Scholar info flyer." Applications
must be received no later than June 30, of the student's 8th grade
year. Even if you know you are not currently eligible, you should still
apply for the scholarship. If your student is denied now, the application
can still be reviewed at a later date should your student’s financial situa-
tion change. However, if you do not apply prior to the end of the
8th grade year, this opportunity is lost regardless of what unexpected
circumstances might arise in the next four years.
If you would like to complete the application process yourself, call the
office to receive your student’s STN number. If you prefer, you can fill
out the necessary information and turn the application worksheet into
the office, and one of the counselors will complete the application pro-
cess for you. Don’t let this opportunity for four years of paid college
tuition pass your students by.

7th and 8th Grade Robotics Competition
Limestone Robotics Tournament
On Saturday, December 8th, the 7th and 8th grade Robotics Teams competed in the Limestone Robotics Tournament
in Bedford, Indiana. This year’s First Tech Challenge was called “Rover Ruckus” and had a theme about space. For
the competition, teams had to make a robot that could pick up gold and silver pieces (blocks and wiffle balls) from a
crater and deposit them into a rover in the correct spot. The teams were able to get their robots working and were able
to pick up pieces to score points for their teams.
The teams competed in five matches each, had an interview to explain their robot and how it works, and they had to
create an engineering notebook to explain the process of designing their robot step-by-step. The 7th and 8th Grade
Robotics Team and coaches appreciate the help and support of their parents and sponsors, Toyota Indiana, and Cas-
tle High School FRC Team #6498.
