DEFENSE OFFICIALS IN CMZFilipinas R. Rojo, MD, MHA

DILG Sec. Mar Roxas, Defense Secretary Voltaire

Gazmin and AFP Chief of Staff Emmanuel

    Bautista visit CIUDAD MEDICAL ZAMBOANGA

    Day 16. September 24, 2013.

    After the roller coaster of

    emotions in Zamboanga City,

    ranging from panic to

    depression to compassion,

    everyone in Ciudad Medical

    Zamboanga had a heyday this

    Day 16 for some unusual

    reason!

The main reason why three of

    the highest officials in the

    Philippines (in relation to

    Defense), DILG Sec. Mar

    Roxas, Defense Secretary

    Voltaire Gazmin and Armed

    Forces of the Philippines Chief

of Staff Emmanuel Bautista'spresence in CMZ was to visit

and give support to the injured

    soldiers admitted in here.

    After their rounds, the CMZ

    Execom led by President Dr.

    oven Monsanto and CEO Atty.

    hihann Natividad together

    ith CMZ Vice-President

Pedro To had a short inform

    meeting with them and the

party on where the DILG an

AFP can also be of help

CMZ, and where CMrequested continued security

    CMZ also expressed our gre

    appreciation for our soldier

and we shared that among th

    injured soldiers we hav

As soon as the meeting was

done, we, of course, took the

    chance for photographs.

    What was interesting was that

right after the first shot, Sec.

    Roxas requested the people

seated to now give chance to

    the photographers!

Since the meeting was done at

    the CT/MRI section, the

    Radiology staff (who were the

    photographers) were the first

    to have their light moment.

But what was more fun was

    outside of this room, where

everyone (okay, mostly girls!)had their picture taken with Lt.

    Col. Ramon Zagala, AFP public

    affairs chief!!!... and also with

    ABS CBN's George Cario and

    GMA 7's Ian Cruz.

    Staff and patients/relatives

oined in with the photo-op of

hich they were also so willing

    to oblige. The staff considered

    this as the first "Stress

    Debriefing" session. I am

thinking, even Lt. Col. Zagala is

    showing such a sincere smile

since this may also be his first

    light moment during thisCrisis!

    The Defense Party proceeded to

    the official Press Conference

    ithin CMZ with national

    television groups: ABS-CBN,

    GMA 7 and TV 5.

On the way out, Sec. Mar Roxas

    passed by the Emergency Room

and thanked the ER Doctors andstaff. Of course, not to be missed

    are the photo opportunities

    (again!).

CMZ, then, took the time to also

    thank the Military Medical and

    Nurse Corps for our partnership

and for the courage of our

    soldiers.

    -./012(34526(+7896(

    To our soldiers...in the so

    many days, we have also

    felt so depressed on your

    plight, we are happy now

that today, we are able to

    share with your most Senior

    Leaders, our utmost

    gratitude to you and our

salute to you, that against all

    odds, you have maintained

    courage, optimism and

    heroism throughout the

    Zamboanga Crisis!

    Also with this day's events

    somehow, in our own little

    way, Ciudad Medical

Zamboanga has achievedits Vision of being a

    hospital with performance

    excellence that is

    nationally recognized... by

    sharing our humble service

    to our country's heroes!

!CMZ SCENES ON DAY 1 OF THEZAMBOANGA CITY CRISIS

    September 9, 2013Filipinas R. Rojo, MD, MHA

I wrote this down because I strongly felthow my family and friends worried about uswith all the news about the ZamboangaCrisis this September 9, 10 and still ongoing!!(

The stream of photos and collages still show

the Ciudad Medical Zamboanga family with

    beaming faces... apprehensive... but ever

willing to serve... with preparations now ready

to be put in action.!!Our only limitation is that the hospital census is

already full in the first place! We can

accommodate treatment for those who need

immediate care, but we have a limitation to the

possibility of admissions.!!There are no gruesome pictures in this set. We

are "far", but since Zamboanga City is small, far is just about a kilometer away! We are

fortunate not to be in the center of things, but

we worry for our staff who live in the areas

concerned.!Senior Leaders (with President Dr. Joven

Monsanto and CEO, Atty. Jhihann Hairun-

Natividad at the helm) immediately assessed

the present situation, updates and activation of

    the disaster plan.

Because we have been preparing for so long,

we can afford to smile at the height of the

    crisis because we are ready!!!

At the Emergency Room, there were six

injured in the early morning of the

Zamboanga Crisis and the patients not

related to the disaster still continue to come.

Our first admission (after the six injured) was

a pregnant patient because she could not be

    accommodated at the government hospital

which is located in the affected area!

    Security measures were immediately

heightened with coordination with thegovernment and with the Armed Forces of

the Philippines and the Police Force.

Food was available to all workforce,

including the support staff and security forces

considering the security issues if staff go out

and unavailability of resources in general.

    Other needs were also addressed,

    especially, staffing and supplies.

    UNSUNG HEROES IN THE

    ZAMBOANGA CRISIS 2013

    Healthcare professionals (from

    nursing and ancillary services) are

in a very noble field, however,

there are times they are taken forgranted and under appreciated by

the people they serve. They are the

    unsung heroes who share their

    expertise and care whenever and

    wherever they are needed.

Many may not even know that they

are willing to extend their duty to 16

hours to 24 hours, if the need arises

when there is a temporary lack of

staff (at certain times) during the

    Zamboanga City Crisis 2013.

The temporary lack of staff is not

because they are afraid to come but

    because they come from the

    affected areas! Service and Care

    are already embedded in their

    hearts...

But, most of all, we greatly thank

    our hospital support group,

    because maintenance, security,

    supplies, food, janitorial services

are all readily available to augment

    the medical, nursing and ancillary

    services and they, themselves, are

    also unsung heroes!

    And, especially, to the Finance

    group who really exerted great

effort to coordinate with the banks

for the payroll to be completed on

time. You know you are highly

    appreciated by your colleagues!

September 11 to 14, 2013. DAY 3 TO 6 OF THE ZC CRISIS

I am proud of the Ciudad

    Medical Zamboanga

    family. We are ongoing

    with our efforts for the

PQA and this, I believe isone of the reasons for the

    streamlined processes

    as part of the

    preparation. We hope

    we can further develop

    these and more so,

    sustain these for

    PERFORMANCE EXCEL-

    LENCE! - FRR

    Most interesting are the smiles

    after every episode of anxiety

and fear... or after a surge o

    bloody and toxic patients.

    The end of the Zamboanga

Crisis is still obscure, but with

    the partnership of the Public

and Private Sector in times o

dire need, there is great hope

    how Ciudad Medical

    turned into the military

    operations center) , thus,

    moved to theWMSU

    Dr. George Rojo, head of

    the CMZ Safety Promotion

ness Committee is alsopart of the Planning Group

    for the ZCMC and works

    hand in hand with the

    Medical Service of the

    ZCMC.

    preparing the hospital,

    especially for surgical

    cases and is coordinating

    with CMZ for some

    resources which may be

    needed like sterilization of

    instruments.

    3) that the Private

    Hospitals will now be

    tapped for patients

    supposed to be for

    admission to theZamboanga City Medical

    Center

    4) Accepting patients

    from other hospitals for

    special diagnostic tests

    (CT Scan and MRI).
