Inaugurating the Bhavan’s K M Munshi Institute for Good Governance jointly organised by the Bhavan’s Bangalore Kendra and Subhash Charitable Foundation, he agreed that there was disorder in the Government and reiterated that effecting some Inauguration in style : Hon'ble Chief Minister Sri. He pointed out that thoseof his predecessors who wereknown as good administratorsresponded to problems in societyand the country. Indeed, there isno doubt that providing aresponsible and transparentadministration was the primeconcern of any administratorworth the name.

In the discharge of suchresponsibility, the Chief Ministerexplained that the administration isvested in a political party throughthe power of the ballot. Hence,one should discharge the functionof an administrator for and onbehalf of the electorate and not

for oneself. “One must not forgetthat all those nominated in theGovernment must work as therepresentatives or trustees of thepeople”, he asserted.

Referring to the aspirationsof the people, Sri Siddaramiahdeclared that he would strive tothe utmost to serve the needs andrequirements of the poor, down-trodden and other backwardclasses. “That, however doesn’t

Complimenting Bhavanfor conceiving such a thought-provoking concept, theChief Minister gave awaymementos to the membersof the Sub-Committee which hadorganised the function.

Justice M N Venkatachaliah,former Chief Justice of India,who presided over the function,observed that the challenge

posed by the feudal, rigid anddespotic order was enormous.In that context the next few yearscould be a trying time for anygovernment.

Earlier, after the invocation,Sri Peeyush Jain, Hon. photographs of well-knowncamera artist B. Srinivas was aworthy sidelight of the function topresent the annual E. HanumanthaRao Wild Life Photographyaward at the ESV Hall of Bhavanon Sept 6. The function wasorganised by the Bhavan’sBangalore Kendra.

Sri. Srinivas himself was therecipient of the prestigious award,which was given away by Sri.K.G. Somasekhar, the renownedportrait photographer.

Sri. Somasekhar whocomplemented Sri. Srinivas onreceiving the coveted award,described the letter as a gifted

cameraman who is as well-knownfor his artistic skill as for hiscraftsmanship, as evidenced inhis works on display.

The Bhavan's BangaloreKendra regrets to announcethat Smt. Rama Raghavan,wife of its Hon. SecretarySri K G Raghavan passedaway on Oct 17. The endcame to the 53-year oldmember of Bhavan’sProgramme and Projectssub-committee, after a briefillness. Besides her husbandshe leaves behind twodaughters and a host ofrelatives and friends tobemoan her loss.

The members ofthe Kendra Committee,the other members and thestaff, convey their heartfelt condolences to Sri K.G.Raghavan and to the bereavedfamily, on their bereavement.

Smt. Rama Raghavan

The passing away of SantBhadragiri Achuta Das onOctober 22, is a great loss toBhavan’s Bangalore Kendra.The renowned HarikathaVidwan who was 84, wasassociated with the Kendraalmost since its inception.

Like his other twobrothers Sant Keshava Daswho predeceased him, andSri Sarvothama Pai, SantAchuta Das was well knownfor his musical discourses filledwith an array of devotionallyrics drawn from differentlanguages. A Rajyotsava andState Sangeet Nritya Academyaward winner, he was alsomember of the Academy for aterm. By his loss the Harikathastage has indeed becomepoorer.

The Bhavan pays itshomage to the departed soul.
