Sensei Dixon’s 3rd book in the series Goju Budo presentsstep by step instruction and terrific graphics of Goju Ryu’ssignature powerful Sanchin Kata, and it’s counterpart,Tensho form. These two forms introduce the concept ofinternal energy and the dynamic power that is the heart of Goju Ryu.These Kata carry a powerful message in their yin yang concept within which we can find new understanding to that we can apply in every area of our lives. As inspiration to the beginner, or reinforcement and newinsight to veteran karateka the concepts presented in this book will continue to serve and inspire you in your practice at the dojo, in your daily life, and in your aspirations for the future.

This 4th book in Sensei Dixon’s series on Goju Budo is a continuation of his instruction in the system. These more senior kata are shown in great detail. The demonstration of the use of the moves in more than one application give the reader insight into the possibilities of the form.

The additional philosophical, historical, and training information is invaluable to students of all levels. These books are an excellent addition and augmentation to ones notes and training books.

Volume 5 of the CMAC Goju-Budo series is a landmark volume. It provides instructors and students of varying levels with an immense wealth of knowledge that stimulates the mind, refreshes and energizes the soul and inspires all to continue on this incredible journey in the Martial Arts. Sensei Dixon intrigues us with the Bunkai and gives us greater understanding and insight into the hidden movements and self defences of the Kata.

- Sensei Tammy Thankachen (CMAC Oku Damashi)~

Sensei Dixon's series is a growing record of the evolution of Canadian Karate-do. They are not just text-books on kata, application and theory, but they also reflect the refinement and skill all those who set forth on the path of Martial Arts should aspire to. His books mark the dawn of an exciting time, "the rise of Canadian Budo", and illuminate the contributions made to martial arts by one of Canada's living icons, Sensei W.M.Platt.

Thought without action is a dream, action without thought a nightmare.

Walking the Martial Arts “Path” is not an easy path to say the least! The rewards are seldom obvious, but if you want a path with heart it is worth the effort.

“Budo” the Japanese way of the warrior, is the path we have chosen. Karatedo the empty hand way, Kobudo the way of Okinawan weapons, Judo/Jujitsu the gentle way, Aikido the way of harmony Iaido way of drawing the sword, Kendo way of the sword, Tai Chi the supreme ultimate fist, are all part of the program here at CMAC.

The training is a means to bring about a positive change in the student, becom-ing a finely tuned, fully functional and focused individual. Some of the benefits of the training are self discipline, self esteem, and self confidence. When I see these things happen with the kids, it’s very rewarding knowing that the training played a part in it. Then when these things happen with adults it’s kind of mind blowing because as we grow up we usually grow into our own, so over coming these things can happen at anytime.

Sometimes kids will train for a few years and quit and some will train right up to university then quit, but a few will figure it out so they can train and go to school, Mr Chan did it. Hopefully the next batch of teens will follow suit.

Think about it, how fast did the last ten years go by. If your kid starts when they are 8 and by 18 they can grade for first degree black belt, and when they are 20 second degree black belt, 23 third degree. Pretty awesome.

In CMAC there are no children Black Belts, in Japanese Kyu means child and Dan means adult, so we like to keep to that idea of Dan ranks for 18 and up. However when some kids have been with me for 10 years and will be at university when they turn 18 I will grade them to Sho Dan Ho Jr. First Dan.

Training is a life long endeavour, it’s not like seasonal sports, it’s maintenance for the mind body and spirit, so to keep those things balanced you need to train, plan and simple. Some parents will make their kids train till university and that makes sense, hopefully it’s something they do for the rest of their life but a good 10 yrs will certainly go a long way. Imagine sending your child off to university trained to handle themselves in bad situations, make good choices and have the discipline not to waste your time and money but take advantage of the op-portunity of a higher education.

My very first student was 4 when he started and he has never stopped training. We parted ways after 7 years, he moved to the USA, he became a Black Belt Hall of Famer and runs his own acupuncture therapy clinic. He grew up got married and has a child now, very proud of that one. There have been so many success stories from the training. I really should charge more, but I’m pretty sure it’s not about the money.

Karate Do Empty Hand Way

Red Dragon of Japan

Translating from Japanese to English

Karate is two words “Kara” Empty, “Te” Hand, “Empty Hand”

Most people believe it to mean defending oneself without weapons, which it is, but there’s more to it than that. An empty open hand can hold nothing, which is ultimately the goal of “Zen”. Zen is an far east philosophy where the Zen practitioner will meditate on emptiness, nothingness, and the ability to let things go, not dwelling on the past. If you live in the past or the future you ignore what is, you miss the present, which is where you are right now.

Here you see a Fire breathing, cherry eating Red Dragon from Japan. This is as you can see a very little dragon approxi-mately ten inches long, but don’t let his size fool you, this is a dragon, and will reach five feet long fully grown.

Although it is not a winged creature they are believed to fly, they live in trees and will attack from above, by coiling and launching themselves.

These beautiful creatures are new to the planet, a genetic evolution due to the Fukushima disaster of 2015. Don’t worry though they will only attack if you’re stealing their cherries.

Opportunity is KNOCKING! You guys have the opportunity to receive instruction from Senpai Tisdall a 4th degree GOJU man with a 2nd degree in Shotokan from Tsuruoka.

Any of you who have been to his seminar can appreciate his skill so get to his class on Wednesday night and learn as much as you can. It’s good training and he makes you work hard.

You can lead a student to knowledge but you can’t make him think.

Ever notice that things bother you more the less you work out? Could be because that when you don’t train your vibration lowers? Could it also be that when your health is good you tend to be happier and lighter in spirit?

Just a Funtastic seminar experience for those that made the effort to come out. I was surprised at the lack of support from the Beaches Dojo students, but fortunately students came in from Ajax and Newmarket so we had enough people to make it rewarding for all those involved.

I must apologies for my lack of a forceful presentation as to what’s important to your martial arts evolution. My Sensei would tell us that something was coming up and we should go, so we did. He was the guy that had went though the trouble to make it available to us, so we would support him in return.

Support is an interesting thing, if a Sensei isn’t supported for things that he’s trying to expose to his students to the Sensei will lose interest in trying to make your martial experience bigger and more memorable. Here’s a tip, stop being so lame and get out to these events.

I went to everything when I was going through the ranks then when I got my Black Belt and my dojo I was fully com-mitted to whatever was happening. That kind of commitment is a rarity these days. I feel that I got the full presenta-tion and today I live free of the confines that most people find themselves locked up in. So you tell me was it worth it? What am I asking you for you don’t even read these things....You can lead a student to knowledge but you can’t make them think.

Sensei Fritz Titus you are the man! Nice job on the seminar. The opening warm up began with everyone grabbing a partner and fireman carry around the dojo, then as late comers would show up, Sensei Titus would shake their hand as they bowed in and then he would fireman carry them around the dojo.

Sensei Titus covered many different throws and locks during his presentation, everyone had a good chance to work their ground game so that went over very well. Thanks for all your experience in this seminar it was awesome!

This is the correct way to line up your crests on your gi.

Notice that the top of the CMAC diamond is pointed directly at the maple leaf on the banner of the fist and is in this proximity.

Both crests are straight up and down, not on an angle that is lined up with the gi top’s lapel .

The crests should sit on the left chest of the gi top.

Notice that the CMAC diamond has the black leaf on top.

If you want to grade to yellow belt you should have a fist on your gi

If you want to grade to orange belt you should have a CMAC diamond.
