Thursday, December 5, 2013 OZAUKEE PEOPLE ns earned I really hate to complain about Christmas. However, I do have a question about why Mequon’s tree lighting is occurring at 4:15 p.m. (Sunday), when it is still light outside. Wouldn’t it be much more festive to wait 15 minutes or a half hour until it’s dark and the tree can light up the night?” M equon’s holiday event, Winter Wonderland of Mequon, runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday in front of Mequon City Hall. Among the scheduled activities are the tree lighting at 4:15 p.m. and the arrival of Santa Claus and his live reindeer at 4:20 p.m. The festivals committee did not use an exact science in selecting the time the tree would be lit, said City Administrator Lee Szymborski. Instead, the focus was on trying to keep people’s attention over the course of two hours. “The committee looked at all the activities offered, wanting to assure there was plenty to do to make the event lively,” Szymborski said. “The tree light- ing is only one of a number of activities planned, and the committee believes that regardless of the time, the moment will be magical.” Gotta gripe?
