Hey all! This is Dennis, one of the Co- Presidents of the Cloverdale Key Club! I just want to say congratulations for starting school this year and I hope you are all ready for a service-filled year! We have some planning to do and some work to make sure we are ready for this year! Also! Please make sure that you come to our first meeting of the year. Hope you guys had a wonderful summer! I am truly excited and honored to be elected Co-President of the Cloverdale club, along Dennis. I first started Key Club about a year ago when my friend asked me to join with her. I have loved what the club stood for, ever since. I hope to accomplish all the goals that Dennis and I have set for this year. Some of our goals are having a stronger bond with our Board and therefore our club, and with our Kiwanis Club and our Builders Club. If we have a stronger connection with these wonderful people, it will help unite us and we can accomplish all of our goals as a whole. We’re also looking at ways to get more students to join our club and keep them involved for their time at Cloverdale High School. This is always a challenge. Hope we all have a wonderful year and that we accomplish all of our goals that we have set for ourselves.

Hi, I’m Yari Sanchez and welcome to another Key Club year! For these past few years I have been a very active member of the Cloverdale Key Club family. You will have plenty of fun here, not only with the club, but also with our “parent club” Kiwanis! I hope you enjoy this Key Club year and welcome to our family!

My name is Isidro Gonzalez, and I'm one of the three Vice Presidents of Key Club this year. I am also the former Webmaster for the club. I'm usually that guy who is quiet and only talking to people that he knows, but joining Key Club my freshmen year was a great experience; and when I went to the orientation/campout at Mrs. Cummins’ house it helped me to feel more comfortable. Everyone was nice and told about all the fundraisers and the trips. The experience I had at places like Fall Rally at Six Flags and District Convention in Santa Clara were pretty great. And meeting kids from other divisions, yelling out cheers, or getting asked "How do you feel?"…. it’s got to be lived through to be believed! Key Club has been a great experience for me.

Hi, I’m Claire Carter, and I am your treasurer for this year! I am a sophomore and this is my second year in Key Club, though before that I was a charter Board member of the Builders Cub. I love the Kiwanis family and I love service; both have made my life wonderful. And, I hope I can help them do the same for you.

So let me talk a bit about my main goal this year; I would really like to focus on recruitment. Recruitment is a double service, because we are not only finding more people to make the world a better place, but also sharing a love of service. I love what we do and I hope you will, too. Let’s share that love with our friends and families.

My name is Nancy Martinez. I am a senior this year at Cloverdale High School. My plan after high school is to join the law enforcement field and hopefully continue to be part of the Kiwanis family. My experiences with Key Club have been the best. I joined Key Club as a junior, thanks to my good friend Jacob Torres, our Lt. Governor. I have to say the moment I went to the meetings I knew Key Club is where I belonged. I was never so dedicated to something as soon as I joined. I was really active; I would sign up to almost everything. I wanted to be more than just a member, so I became an Executive Assistant. For all the hard work I put in, I became “Member of the Year” for CNH, (California-Nevada-Hawaii). It wasn't easy, but I know anyone can do this if they truly want it. Receiving my medal and going to the District Convention as well as all the things we have done in Key Club have been truly the best and most beautiful experiences that have impacted my life. My parents are proud of me, and it makes me very happy. I enjoy doing every single thing we do in Key Club, even if it's pulling weeds someplace for someone, even on a really hot day, or putting out flyers or even waking up early to deliver phonebooks. At the end of the day I feel good for doing it. This year I have challenged myself to be Scrapbook Editor, not an easy job. But, I will work super hard to make a great scrapbook for the club. My plans and goals for this year are to not leave anything for the last minute. I want the year to go smoothly and not be stressed, because I want to enjoy doing the scrapbook. I would really like to go to the International Convention in Washington, DC. But, even if that doesn't happen, I will still be proud of my hard work. I plan to work really hard and use every minute of my free time. Since it’s my last year in Key Club, I hope to enjoy every bit of it. So, let’s make this a good year for all the CHS Key Clubbers!

Here are some words from your Assistant Lieutenant Governor, Jose Gaona:

I am a tenth grader in Fort Bragg and have received the title of LTG's Assistant. Having recently received my new position in the Key Club network, many things are always crossing my mind. The one thing that I always remind myself is that while I'm in “office” I will strive to learn as much as possible about what makes Key Club mighty and so very full of people with great service ideas. I remind myself that, if ever the time comes when a club needs reviving, I'll be ready to give tips on how to succeed because, after holding this position, I’ll know so much more about how to make a club be successful! Recently, the President of the Fort Bragg High School Key Club, Frances Fontanilla, and I have been working on helping Fort Bragg's Key Club flourish. So, I’m already learning how to make a difference! Part of my job, as Division Assistant will be to contact clubs with reminders about events. So, just know that you’ll probably be hearing from me……. Letter from your Lieutenant Governor

It’s the beginning of the new school year for Key Club. Start planning to include local Key Club activities and Division 32 events in your school year plans. I hope all of you are excited about the upcoming Key Club year; I sure am! I’m going to give a special shout-out to my wonderful Division Leadership team – Frances, Claire and Jose… Holla! This year’s success wouldn’t be happening without you guys <3; and to you D32 members, remember I’m always here when you need me. I’m just a friend request/phone call/click/e-mail away. I look forward to making D32 your new family this year!

I'm excited to introduce the new Region 15 phrase for the 2012-2013 Key Club year, "Our MLLION Waves of Rawring Service Can't Be Stopped". I am so glad it's really convenient with the 2013 District Convention Theme, "A MILLION Waves of Service"! I hope you all are excited about the Division 32 Awake-A-Thon where we hope to raise enough money to help us reach our goal of $3,400 raised by Fall Rally from Division 32 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. Let's help those children who have unintentional injuries and get doctors trained so they can save more lives. Together, we can lower the probability of unintentional injuries for children. Go to the Awake-A-Thon to bond with the division, meet new people, help the Pediatric Trauma Program, and just have a fun time! IT'S ONLY $15 (: -- $10 of the registration cost goes directly to support the PTP cause. The final $5 helps pay for food and other costs of the night. You only have to come up with the $5 out-of-pocket if you help us fundraise the week beforehand! I hope all have a wonderful start to your school year, but remember time-management is important. Hello, my name is Claire Carter, and I am your new division secretary! I am a sophomore, and I'm a member of the Key Club at Cloverdale High School, though I’m actually home-schooled through Pathways Charter School. This will be my second year in Key Club. Last year I was a club Executive Assistant, and previous to Key Club I was the secretary of my local Builders Club. I will also be my club’s treasurer this year. I have always loved Key Club and Kiwanis, and I am very excited to be in a division office this coming year. Key Club is fantastic, we can all agree to that, and that's what brings us together: our love of Key Club. I am looking forward to seeing us all grow, and am honored to help our growth on all levels. We are a good division, and I am proud to say that I believe that our members, officers, and of course Jacob, can all pull together this coming year for service and excellence!

Why: To raise money for Kiwanis PTP (Pediatric Trauma Program)

o To take to Fall Rally in support of our division

Who: All Division 32 members are welcome

What: Participate in a variety of activities all night long.

Bring a sleeping bag and pillow for times you want to relax

and just talk with friends. There will be table games, board

games, social games, video games, competitions, music, a

chance to earn service hours with a service project, and

more…. Including good food and fun times getting to know

other Key Clubbers from Division 32 Cost: $5 to get in the door + 2 hours in front of Ray’s

the Library every Monday.

The Pasta Dinner and Games Night was a joint event with our Kiwanis Club. We raised

money for the “EliMiNate Project”. The project raises funds to eliminate Maternal and

Neonatal Tetanus from the face of the Earth! It’s going to cost $110 million dollars to do!

And, the Kiwanis family is trying to do this be the end of the year 2015!

Here is our Board and the Kiwanis Board when we got together and had a picnic in order to tell each other our plans for the year, and just spend a little time getting to know each other. Our club has a particularly close bond with our Kiwanis, which helps to make our Key Club experience that much more magical.

At the dinner we presented our desire to revive a BIG event to be held the first Sunday of November. We decided on doing something called, “Clolympics”. We’ll be holding a fun evening of physical and mental challenges, all in a fun and goofy style! Just wait in the coming weeks as we begin planning for it. Then this is the will be the event for you!

This year, in order to raise funds for the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Program, our club is planning our second annual Car Smash, to be held downtown at the Cloverdale Car Show, on September 8th. Members will be needed to help the Fire Department employees prepare the car, and then to run the Car Smash booth all day long! In addition, members will also be needed to assist the Chamber of Commerce with the Car Show... doing everything from set-up of equipment and street supplies in the morning, to counting of the Car Show ballots in the afternoon. All proceeds from the Car Smash will be donated to the PTP cause. Finally, some of our members will also help with the Senior Center Pancake Breakfast, always held in conjunction with the town's Car Show.

In the past, our members have really loved the “Shine Days, because they see the smiles on the faces of Special Day Class students, and it feels very personal to know that these students really appreciate us spending time with them. After we had been doing this for a couple of months, one of the teachers from the class came to a Key Club meeting to tell us what a difference we had made in the lives of the Special Day Class students. This spurred us on to want to do even more with them. So, let’s make the “Shine Days” this year be successful!

Shine Days

Last year, we did a project where we held a regular activity that we loved so much that we want to do it again this year. So, what is it? We call it “Shine Days”. It’s all about bringing “light” into the lives of those who are disabled. Basically, we meet up at lunchtime with the Special Day Class students, every other Thursday.

When we meet, we play board games, do special craft projects and interact with the Special Day Class students as much as we can. The Special Day Class teacher is delighted that we interact with them, because they feel more welcomed on campus, and it makes a big difference in their lives. We are pretty much the only ones on campus who help them to feel like they are a part of our school. We also have Kiwanis members who assist us in this program.

One of our Special Day Class friends is Tony. He decorated cupcakes in the week before Valentine’s Day, with Key Clubbers to help him. He came up with two designs for his cupcakes.

A Kiwanis member comes a lot of the time. He often plans a special project for us to do together. He purchases supplies and prepares materials in advance. In this picture he is showing the students how to make a “god’s eye”. Both the Special Day Class students and the Key Clubbers had a lot of fun with this project. When we finished, the students from the Special Day Class were able to take the yarn creation back to their classroom to decorate the room.

Before Christmas break we made Gingerbread men with the students. This was one of our more popular activities. We actually asked a couple of non-Key Clubbers to come in and play guitar music for us; we popped popcorn, and warmed up apple cider in a crock pot. When we were all done, we ate so much gingerbread we almost made ourselves sick!

One of the craft projects we worked on was creating plaques with their names on them. The students were excited to do a project that involved creating something from scratch. And, when finished, they LOVED being able to take their plaques with them.

Every year about 400 members from Regions 9, 15 and 17 gather at Camp Jones Gulch in the Santa Cruz Mountains to attend the Region Training Conference. Everyone arrives about noon on a Saturday and leaves about noon on Sunday. The Region Training Conference is put on every year by the current Lt. Governor in our division in conjunction with other Lt. Governors in the attending regions. At the Region Training Conference there will be informative workshops on various topics that will help you and the other members of your club. There will be Icebreakers so you can get to know some of the members of the other clubs in the region. You will leave this conference knowing so much more about Key Club and how to be a more effective officer and /or member. Some of the workshops that may be presented at our RTC are: service projects, fundraising, running for office, all officer workshops, time management, ethics, public speaking, to name a few. You will also get more information about Fall Rally and the CNH District Convention. This is an event you and the rest of our club members do not want to miss. Plan to have a ton of fun along the way.
