(Digital version)
JULY 11, 2012, QUITO, ECUADOR – A 3-‐day Training Course was launched on the topic of Closed Looped Cycle Production at the Radisson Hotel in Quito, Ecuador. This is a tailored training course targeting public and private sector representatives, academia and other stakeholders interested in learning about the application of the closed looped cycle production philosophy.
Opening remarks were provided by Mr. Milan Ludena, Advisor for the Minister of Production, Employment and Competitiveness (MCPEC), and Mr. Kevin de Cuba, Program Manager of the Closed Looped Cycle Production in the Americas Initiative at the OAS Department of Sustainable Development.
The training course is hosted by the Ministry of Coordination of Production, Employment and Competitiveness (MCPEC) and the Department of Sustainable Development of the Organization of American States (OAS/DSD) in line with the National Closed Looped Cycle Production Work Plan approved by MCPEC in November 2011. The training course is provided by professors and senior researchers of the Environmental Engineering and Technology for Sustainable Development Research Group of the University CEU San Pablo based in Madrid, Spain.
The Closed Looped Cycle Production in Ecuador program is one component of the "Closed Looped Cycle Production in the Americas" initiative under the Energy and Climate Partnership of the Americas (ECPA). The principle goal of the initiative is to introduce the Cradle-‐to-‐Cradle (C2C) design philosophy in the production sectors of nations in the Americas as an innovative business development tool. The main purpose for introducing C2C is to improve energy efficiency and environmental performance in the industrial sector while simultaneously increasing the productivity, competitiveness and sustainability of businesses, in particular Small and Mediums size Enterprises (SMEs).
This training course is one of the multiple activities of the National Closed Looped Cycle Production Work Plan being supported by a consortium of the OAS Department of Sustainable Development, the National Cleaner Production Center of Colombia, the C2C Expo Lab of the Netherlands and the U.S.-‐based McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC) with funding from the United States’ Department of State.
Furthermore meetings are held during the week with partner ministries including the Ministry of Coordination of Production, Employment and Competitiveness (MCPEC), Ministry of Industry and Production (MIPRO), Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy (MEER), Ministry of Environment (MAE) and other key stakeholders in the Government of Ecuador exchanging ideas on how to guarantee the further successful implementation of the National Closed Looped Cycle Production Work Plan in line with the National Development Plan “Plan Nacional para el Buen Vivir” and the “Agenda para la transformacion Productiva”.
