Close Control Air Conditioning (CCAC) was created in the 70’s in order to meet the needs of a very technological and specialized élite: keeping the thermal-hygrometric (temperature and relative humidity) and air purity conditions within strict limits in rooms where the first computers used to work.

It was clear that those devices emitted a great amount of heating, and that their working operations could be guaranteed only at appropriate indoor climate conditions.

As this comparative ASHRAE (research Study 601) study showed, lubricated chiller's operating efficiency is routinely lost in the early years as a result of oil clogging of heat transfer surfaces. The average overcharge of oil in the system was 12.88%, this equated to an average energy loss of about 21%

Keep in mindBoth cooling systems are commonly used for cooling data centres. The choice of cooling system is dependent on several factors, but in general one can say that, for lower cooling outputs (data centres with ICT devices of a total power output of c. 300 kW) DX systems are used and for larger outputs above 300 kW it is worth using CW systems. The exact point at which either DX or CW systems are applied cannot however be stated with such certainty. between chilled water use or direct expansion use is not so marked.
